Anyone know of a production or custom MFG who builds an Sodbuster with a liner lock? Preferably something with a 3.5 to 4 inch blade?

Thanks in advance

seems like queen does or did. if you'll move this to the traditional forum you'll probably get a quicker reply.

Gene Ingram has started to make Sod Busters. No lock, beautiful!!! It may be a few years to get one because he is not in full production of them. IMO- WORTH THE WAIT. If interested, I can email some photos.

Berdar,

I have a Case Sodbuster that has a liner lock. I don't know it's vintage other than being from the late 70's. I used it heavily and it's now a bit on the rough side. It's also stainless, which not everyone wants in a traditional design. I'm thinking of finding another myself. A Queen D2 with a lock would be great.

Thx
Mike

Some years ago, I had a Case with a lock. I'd love to have another...and for me, stainless would be just fine. Ideally, I want a nice BIG one that would fit my huge hands with a good sturdy lock. I'm about to take another trip to the desert and would love to carry good sodbuster as my primary cutting tool.

We had an incident on my last tour that required cutting the body armor off of a soldier. Our medic was hacking at it with a Gerber tool and a set of EMT shears... neither was doing the job well. I pulled out my trusty (non locker) Case and zipped through it like butter. Now, I know that most any sharp blade would have done the same thing, but there's something about the SB design that does the trick for me.

Thanks all for your input and keep your eyes open for me.

Berdar.

Don't write off the Rough Rider. It's a large sodbuster (4 5/8") with a sturdy linerlock. I reprofiled the edge so that it has a convex curvature, rather than the conventional flat grind/secondary bevel. It cuts fantastically well now. I think they're available in four handle materials, plastic tortoiseshell (mine), plastic abalone, micarta, and jigged bone. If you want, I can even send it to you. It's seen some pocket time, but is in nice condition, The blade etching was taken off in the reprofiling. Otherwise, it's pretty much intact.

I guess my project for the day is to track down a Rough Rider Sodbuster.

I appreciate the offer, but there is no way I could accept your blade. It's yours and you've spent time re profiling it... that means you have some connection to it... I'd feel like I had stolen your dog or something.

The Rough Rider is a surprisingly good knife.

Mine is in red jigged bone that offers good grip in damper conditions, the lock is certainly alright and it comes sharp. It is cheap to buy check e-bay etc.

Downside for me is the opposite of yours. My palms are not large and my fingers are long so the knife is too large for my EDC needs, but it's a good workhorse and a large knife to boot:thumbup:
