How common are the Sodbusters of any brand name with wood scales?

I have only held one in my life, and the man would not trade on it. I offered to buy him a brand new Sodbuster for the wood scaled pattern, but he would not trade.

He said he could get away with using that knife in camp while doing Civil War reenacting.

I would like to have one of these some day.

Does anyone know when production was stopped on the wood scales.

BTW, his was a Case, with the only difference I could see being the wood scales. I cannot remember if it had the logo on the blade or not.

Thanks.

I like those, but I think I am going to be holding out for the Case that I had in my hands before.

What type of steel is Kissing Crane using?

Thanks for the links.

I have a wood-handled sodbuster from Kissing Crane and Eye Brand. The Eye Brand has black wood. I have had better results with the Eye Brand, it seems that Kissing Crane uses a lower grade carbon steel (or not as good a heat treat). This contrasts with the standard slipjoint line from Kissing Crane, which have better blades than Eye Brand. I suspect the lower performance is probably due to the much lower pricepoint (the Eye Brand will cost 3-4 times as much).

Now I know that it's not a "sodbuster", but if it does'nt HAVE to be a Case brand knife, a small Opinel might be a viable alternative.

Good luck,
Allen.
