Dear Members,

I had the honor and pleasure of being featured as the guest on the SOFREP Podcast Episode 352. It was just released last night and if you'd like to listen just click here:

https://sofrep.com/sofrep-radio/epi...e-craftsmanship-and-early-mixed-martial-arts/

If you like it leave a comment. If you don't like it leave a comment.

SOFREP is a great team of guys and they are the "Real Deal." If you want the truth about the dangerous world we live in you'll find it through them. I hope you enjoy it.

Best Regards,

Ernest Emerson

Is this considered solicitation?

Good question! I did check the Exchange rules (which apply site-wide) and they say that

".... unless you have a DEALER membership you may not:
Mention or link to your business in any way (not applicable to Knifemakers)
Use private messaging to sell to members
Include your business name in your username
Use your signature or avatar to promote your business.
Take part in any discussions involving your business OUTSIDE the Feedback forum."

How I read this portion is that, neither the podcast hosts nor Ernie can mention that he is associated with Emerson Knives during the recording, nor credit him for the interview/chat. If they did, then he cannot link the podcast, since it equates to an unpaid advertisement.

Even if it is free for the masses, and PepsiCo doesn't directly profit from it, if they produce or take part in a video or audio spot (be it 30 seconds or 2 hours long), it is still advertisement if it showcases or states their product in the media production. Especially since they are likely to profit second hand, as well as gaining some reputation and name recognition... The same goes for Ernest/Emerson knives and this link.

Now, you have a bunch of folks listening to these guys that "know hardcore", and talking with this knife guy. Who's knives do you think they're going to buy, if the podcast they listen to is preaching and listening to this guy (Good 'ol Ernies, that's who...) .

This is where the paid membership has to come into play...

That is an interesting take. I wonder if the "unless you have a DEALER membership you may not:
Mention or link to your business in any way (not applicable to Knifemakers) ... Use your signature or avatar to promote your business" applies to having a link to your business in your signature as a registered member.

I guess that's a Tech Support question, though.

E Ernest Emerson now has a knifemaker membership. Hopefully that will allow him to keep this thread from becoming an issue.

Well that is great!

Not sure if it takes care of

"...unless you have a DEALER membership you may not: ... Use your signature or avatar to promote your business."

or

"Asking a member to click on a link, subscribe to a channel or website, provide feedback, donate money or goods, sign an online petition, or “Like” a page on Facebook is considered solicitation. Our members should not be subjected to this type of spam"

But again...mod stuff.

True, but it is more than some members that design knives, have their names on them, profit directly from a sale of said knife as well as peddle them directly via the exchange, but do so with a gold membership...

Since we're quoting rules, here's another one as well.

SECTION 3 - Rules for Everyone -

If you troll, antagonize, provoke, or otherwise create a disruptive environment, you will receive warnings and infractions as necessary for you to modify your behavior. If the problem persists then members that cannot behave in a civil and respectful manner need to find another place to hang out. This is a discussion forum and community, if you come in and shit on the floor, don't expect to stick around for the long haul.

Appreciate this. If you find issue with a thread or post, report it and let the mods sort it out. S*** still gets done and avoids mucking up a thread and taking it off topic.

As to the topic, always appreciate having podcasts available for background during tedious tasks (e.g. commuting, mowing the lawn, etc.). Will give this a listen!
