Soft back draw

I've been trying to get a soft back draw recently. Inevitably the back of the blade goes past blue into the iridescent color range and the edge either stays cool or else hits a brown or purple. Any suggestions?

Patience helps .Put the edge in water ,heat the spine with a propane torch slowly. You're trying to temper and normally we temper for at least an hour so go slow.
