Soft Belt Sheath or Pouch for Manix?

I carry my Manix on my belt and its G10 handles are eating my pants, fraying badly into the cotton in just a week. The stuff is like sandpaper! After much thought, I decided I'd like to mount a soft generic sheath or pouch on my belt like the one made by Benchmade, eg:

That one is 2" by 5.25", just barely the dimensions of a Manix and probably too small to hold it when you allow for the width of the Manix.

Any ideas? Maybe any old gun magazine pouch would work ...?

Hey there, you should take a look at some of the custom moulded leather manix sheaths out there. I believe theres some on ebay right now. Just another option for you. Take care.

Yeah, thanks, but that's muy expensive. I just want to go to my local gunshop/WalMart/whatever and spend < $20, capiche?

Wonder why the Glesser's don't make something like this? Sal, you listening? Send me a prototype for giving you the idea ;-)

Maxpedition.com has nothing, I checked.

Correction, they have the 1411

It fits snugly I hear, with an elasticised middle. About $20 online.

Not sure if it's discreet enough. The sheeple will panic when they see a knife in there. The ideal pouch/sheath would be fully enclosed.

The large Benchmade pouch is perfect for my Paramilitary, so you are probably correct in saying that the Manix would be too big.

DAMN!! I ended up having to send the Maxpedition sheaths back -- they are much too bulky for civilian wear. No refund from the abovementioned dealer, only a shop credit.

Then yesterday I bought a few of these Meyerco Replacement knife sheaths from BassPro for $4.99 each, and they fit the Manix perfectly! Nice, simple, lightweight, slim-profile product. You can wear it vertically or horizontally and it fully conceals the knife. It's a must-have for Manix owners, IMO.

I am very happy with this sheath. I recommend it unreservedly. You may have a Basspro in your area, so pay them a visit and try before you buy if necessary, but for a Manix it's a perfect fit.

I'm going to remove the clip from the knife too, using this $5 Torx screwdriver from Home Depot:

I have been looking for sth simple like a "one size larger" Benchmade sheath for my Manix/Chinook/Large Wegner/Impala for a while.
How wide is the sheath? On the pic it looks quite wide, probably much wider than a Manix..

This is how I carry my Manix. These are available on Ebay for $50. The standard ones are vertical with less blade exposed. I have it modified to cant forward and expose more blade. I think this is far superior to a cordura or nylon sheath for carrying this knife. And because of the change I requested, I can draw it very quickly. However, if your requirement includes a flap, then this is NOT for you. That's a Ritter Grip in my pocket and there is also a small SAK and a kubotan in my left pocket.

That's far too exposed and cowboy-like for non-US countries, IMO. It's also bulkier than the thin nylon sheath I recommend, and vertical carry is a give-away to police and members of the public. Lastly, I'm not a fan of having any knife in leather for long periods due to the slight moisture leather contains, although with the S30V steel of the Manix, this may be a moot point.

Perhaps a pouch from one of the multi-tool makers would work?
I have a Gerber Pro-Scout that has a very nice pouch--it's too wide for my Buck 110 but it would probably be perfect for the Manix.
You could see how much $$$ they are from Gerber.

My SOG Power-pliers also came with a decent simple pouch.

Good luck,
Allen.

Cowboy like? Well, I do live in Colorado so I guess I'm allowed. You can still, on rare occasion, even see people walking around with a "six gun" strapped to their hip. It's also very dry here do I don't worry about moisture.

Good luck in your search.
