Soft bits from Leatherman?

I have a Charge TTi and for the first time today I decided to try out the larger screw bits it comes with. I also purchased the expanded bit set with it. I started screwing together some Ikea shelf and after maybe 7 screws I noticed they were starting to chew up my Philips bit. Ikea screws are actually a pretty cheap, soft metal that strip easily, so I'm surprised they managed to affect the bit after some pretty vanilla usage. Has anyone else had similar problems?

I believe the bits are tool steel, so unless you got a bad batch, they are rather hard. The black finish rubs right off, leaving them looking ugly, but fully functional. Mine are just as hard as say my Chapman bits I would say.

As you said, the black finish came off but I don't really care about that. The actual steel teeth were stripping. I'll try some from the bit set later and see if there is a difference; maybe I just got unlucky.

Yep hadd the same problem with my 6 month old Charge tti. Lucky i baught mine from a Snap-on tool dealer who replaced the bit with no worries.

IMO Leatherman have dropped the ball a little in the last few years. My old wave is twice the quality of the new Charge.

I have noticed the same issue with the bits on my TTi. They do seem softer than other bits I have for my tools.

This is weird. The TTI is an expensive tool and folks are having trouble with the bits but the bits on other cheaper tools are fine?

That worries me. I recently purchased a new Charge TTi after I regrettably lost my older Charge Ti of 7 years.
