Soft Flame Zippo inserts

So as of the moment, I've got a Thunderbird butane zippo insert for sake of ease of maintenance, however I'm somewhat unhappy with the fact that it starts spewing butane so long as you keep it open.

My question here is: do any of you know of any other soft-flame zippo inserts that don't start dumping butane on opening?

I'm not a smoker, and all I really use it for is to melt polish on my boots or start the occasional grill fire, so i don't really care how the flame will make my smokes taste.

This is what I use.

When it's open and you don't want it to vent butane, just flip the kick up. Works well enough for me.

Yeah, I'm aware of how that works, was just wondering if there was any other inserts I might've missed out on with a different design.

Thanks for the input.

I know nothing about "soft flame" inserts. Are they reliable? Piezo or flint? Advantages over the "hard flame" Z-Plus?

Kilroy how are the thunderbird inserts for reliability? I haven't seen those before.

Can't speak for Kilroy, but I've had two, and broken two. So far, the record's not looking too good. Could just be that I use them a little hard, but I don't smoke and rarely use a lighter for anything more than finishing off paracord.

Actually, mine's been lasting for about two years now, just about. I rather like it, gives it that old zippo feel without the relative hassle of dealing with zippo fuel. I've used it for melting the ends of paracord, melting polish on my boots, and a lot of other general duty for starting the occasional beach bonfire/bbq for my ill-prepared friends.

Personally, I like it. But with YayILikePIe's less than glowing endorsement, I guess it comes down to Buyer beware.

Bummer. I've been looking for a good quality refillable soft flame lighter for a while and have yet to find one. For the price maybe i'll roll the dice on the thnderbird and pick one up.

I have one as well and though I had a problem at first a friend fixed it and haven't had a problem since. My only complaints now are it takes 3-4 strikes to get it going most times and it doesn't hold a whole lot of butane. Then again I don't think any butane lighter holds a lot of gas. So for the price it's not at all bad.

Oh, yeah, my first major problem with it was that the flint that came with it was too small and got shoved into the spring that held it up, but replacing it with a standard zippo flint fixed the problem.
