Soft stops?

Is this a new trend? making a larger radius on the tang to make it pause in the middle sort of like a half stop? I had purchaced some newer knives and they seemed to have this feature. I was thinking it was a flaw, but I saw another post mention soft stops.
 
I do hope so! I have no problem with the blade stopping half way closed, as is mentioned about half stops, its a good place to make sure where my fingers are if I'm working. but the bump to half and increased pressure required to get past the corner to close I don't like on a regular half... So I rather like my knives that soft stop half way.

I REALLY hope it does not become a industry standard though, I'd hate for all slippies to do this...
