Has anyone tried anything that works well? I'd like to be able to download my PMs as XML or CSV and use a local viewer to manage them. If you have used an application to solve this problem, please let me know.

If you have microsoft word, it should be able to parse them. I think. I'm honestly not sure.

You said locally manage, I just use the instant notification by email and manage all my pms, if I want a copy of my sent pms, I just copy and paste in an email to myself at one of my other addresses. All of my email addresses are forwarded to just one. I manage all messages in Gmail folders, never had a problem.
Good Luck with your quest.
Jim

I read about something called "PM Reader" (http://vcldeveloper.com/2009/03/13/vbulletin-pm-reader/) but I have not tried it yet. I do not know if it's legitimate or safe, which is why I asked what others use.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a mail reader but only for PMs, and only for archiving PMs.

I participate on many vBulletin fora and I would like it if I could download all my PMs and store them on disk locally, and delete from the individual forums. It would be helpful if there was a way to browse through them by site, almost like using Mozilla Thunderbird to read email stored in folders...but of course not respond to them.

Anyways, I guess there's not something hugely popular that already exists for this purpose.

Thank you for the responses.

That's freakin' awesome. I've been needing something like that.

It let's you make individual database files so you could manage PMs from different sites just fine. It even imports your folders and has search functions. I've been wading through archives in Notepad which is a pain. Thanks for the link.

I tried it later last night and it meets most of my needs too. Cool!

(btw I have no affiliation with the maker of that, just sayin')
