Gentlemen, I've been eyeing the SOG Access Card 2 in black for a while, and may surprise myself with one for Christmas, cause I've been such a good boy. :D

If anyone has one, can you tell me a little about it? I see it is VG-10, which to me says good quality. I really like the style of it, but overall, it looks a little flimsy. It seems SOG is kinda hit or miss these days with quality, so I'm wondering:

1. Is it well built and sturdy?
2. How good is the lock?
3. Grind angle good or 'utility' (codeword for dull)?
4. Is the clip removable?

I appreciate any feedback in advance.

ive been eyeing one as well and i hope to get one some day.
hope i didnt get your hopes up when you saw that someone responded. just thought id say i like the knife too. :)

I have the plain sheepsfoot blade Access Card my wife got me for Christmas last year. Pretty much the same, except for the blade and coating. The thing is sturdy enough for general use, considering it's size and the Arc-lock works very well with no wiggle in the blade.
It was sharp out of the box and held up great cutting many kids toys from plastic packages. The clip, well I would like to flip it, but have not tried to muscle the thing off. It's supposed to be removable/movable, but it looks like the "easy" way to do it would be to disassemble the knife.

I have had the sog acess card 2 for about the last three months. It is sturdy and the lock is a strong. But the black coats is sub par. It started to scrape off the first time I try opening it with one hand. But if you open it using the axis lock you will not have that problam. I clip is supose to be removeable. I never got to out because when try unscrewing the clip the screw was so tight it striped and I did you the correct size of screw driver. Also the black coat on the chip off like cheap paint. The blade was dull when I got. But once I shapern it the vg-10 as handle up well and is easy to touch up. I have carried for my edc for a month because is really does fit well in the pocket. The month I used it did perform well. But this is the last sog I am buying.

So, that's one for and one sorta against. We need a tie breaker!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Based on what you said, I'm likely to get one.

So, I did end up buying one for Christmas, and have been carrying and using it for a couple of weeks now. Since a couple of posters wanted to know more about this knife, I thought I’d do a quick review. If you don’t want to read the review, the short version is: this is a quality product, and worth buying! Highly recommended.

I was worried it might be flimsy based on pictures, but its not. It is solid. It locks open solidly, no blade play at all and the handle doesn’t have any ‘give’ when squeezed either. (Warning to lefties: the axis lock is not ambidextrous like on a Griptillain.)

It opens buttery smooth with the thumb-slot or flips open lightning fast if you disengage the axis lock.

I normally don’t like handles with finger grooves, but here I find them useful since the handle is so thin. They give you a more secure grip. People with big hands: this knife may get “lost” in your palm, but that is true for any knife this size.

When I ran my thumb across it, it did not feel especially sharp, yet it cuts beautifully! I can’t figure this out. Maybe it’s the grind? Or maybe you just can’t go wrong with VG-10. Whatever the case, it is sharper than it feels, if that makes sense.

So far, I have had no wear on the coating, but I have only had it for a few weeks.

This is one of those little knives that you truly don’t notice its in your pocket until you need it. Very light, very thin, you forget you are carrying it! It is a futuristic looking gentlemen’s knife, and a quality piece. I don’t know if its worth $100, but I found mine under $60, and at that price I am very satisfied.

As long as you understand that this is not a knife you will build a log cabin with, or slash your way through the Amazon jungle with. Like I said, it is more a gentlemen’s knife with a unique look, for you basic everyday cutting tasks, unless you are a Marine or a farmer.

So, if you have been on the fence, it has my endorsement. For what that’s worth… :D

Thanks for the review. A lot of people post questions about a knife before buying, but few come back and let us know what they decided and give a review. Thank You.

Cheers :)

Just a tip about removing clip. I use my bevel to cut a slot in each screw and use standard driver.
By the way I wish no clip was a standard option, hate the things.

I've had my black access card for around a year now. Overall it is a very nice knife, the VG-10 blade came sharp and has held an edge well. I agree that the black tini coating is sub par, I hoped it would be more like the tungsten DLC coating. The knife is crazy thin which is why I got it, virtually undetectable when carrying.

Overall great knife for small every day cutting, cutting things like cardboard frequently, caused mine to have side to side blade play. Do I throw this into my carry rotation? Absolutely! It's perfect for taking to the office or anywhere else you don't want to scare people with your fat ZT. In my case anyway :)
