Does anyone have experience with the SOG Aegis? If so do you think it is rugged enough for EDC? I have a chance to pick one up at a good price but I am curious about the AUS-8 steel and how it holds up. Plus it is USA made.

Sog's assisted opening knives are often plagued with blade play issues and IMO have some of the worst customer service compared to the other top knife company's.

I'd pass.

I've got one. It seems pretty nice for the most part. The assisted opening is pretty good, reliable & quick. the handle has pretty good ergos and fits my hand reasonably well. The blade is a nice size, flat grind & shape & I like AUS-8 pretty well (holds decent edge but isn't too tricky to sharpen). The low rider clip is really nice sometimes when you want to go low profile. The one thing I'm not real keen on, as mentioned by OCPwnage, is it does have a bit of blade play. I've tried putting some pressure on the back of the blade (w/o risking hands & fingers of course) and it held fine, but I'm not sure I'd use it for really heavy duty use.

I have the Aegis black handle/blade unit. I carry it to work everyday where it gets used lots. I like it because I can open and close with one hand, it's light, and is unobtrusive in your pocket. I usually give mine a touch up on the spyderco tri-angle sharpener each time when I get home and it holds up decently for a shift.
Like the fella's above said it does have a bit of side to side play which can be pretty much adjusted quite minimally adjusting the pivot. There is a wee bit of up and down play as well but doesn't feel mushy but rather solid. The handles have a raised digital surface that affords not too bad a grip. It does lock up but if you apply some rather hard pressure to the top of the blade you can make the lock fail.
All in all though if it's a good price and you are not planning on heavy, heavy duty use then I would give it a good recommendation. I won't be changing this edc for work anytime soon. Hope this gives you a little help and insight.

cheers,
Sean
