Okay guys I have been looking at knife reviews for about the past month and I have narrowed it down. I need a tough and reliable knife that I can carry every day. It has to be a good slicer.

Mainly used for the everyday cutting jobs but it must be able to "leave the beaten path" and do some harder cutting tasks. Price is under $100 bucks so I'm flexible in that area. I would love the knife to be black all-around because it will be used in a tactical sense (ie, at night).

I love the assisted opening feature but it is not necessary. The SOG Aegis and the BENCHMADE Nitrous Stryker look to fit this criteria. The black blade and the black handle are the look. If the blade isnt black, thats okay, but i would rather prefer it was. Also, does the black coating last long under normal cutting use or will it just chip and wear off.

Thanks for the help guys. Without this site and your help I would be in the dark. If you think one of these knives is worthy, give it a +. If not, recommend a new knife to me. Once again, thanks for the help. Getting a new knife always seems to put me in a great mood.

Lockheed out

I'm going to go against the flow and say go with an SG-2 Kershaw blur. That steel would do much better in most tasks (DEFINITELY SLICING, the blade will whittle hair out of the box, etc etc.) and I've heard many users batoned it through wood without issues. Now the blade isn't black coated, but everything is blasted a dull color--it's not reflective.

I've held the stryker, and I wasn't pleased--tip-down only carry, and the scales were very slippery. I don't have opinions on the Sog.

So take a look at the Kershaw, many users here absolutely love it.

Sorry for muddying the waters of a knife purchase, but the SG-2 blur sounds like it would fit your bill almost perfectly.

Might want to consider the Sog trident... I have the tanto and it always keeps a spot on my arm bald, is quick enough deploying I had a sfc thinking it was an automatic, and locks up tight...

BENCHMADE Nitrous Stryker. I really like SOG knives, but Benchmade knives have a superior design and quality.

Okay guys thanks for the input.

@knivesandguns: thanks for the new knife recommendation. Im gonna have to check that one out!

Have both Blur and Aeigs (camo) ...

Kershaw snaps open with more authority.
Kershaw is thinner, but heavier.
SOG blade is nicer, more useful cut imho.
SOG is lighter.
SOG is easier to sharpen, no recurve.
Jimping on Blur, cosmetic, on SOG great.
Both sharp out of the box, actually, SOG a little better.
If you handed each to a knife noob, they'd say the Kershaw is a more expensive knife, (weight).
Both feel great in hand.
SOG a little larger.
SOG wins on clip, deep carry.
SOG only tip-up carry/either side, Kershaw one side, tip-up or down.
Blur, $50 or so, SOG $60 or so, if you can find it.

Tuff call, glad it wasn't a decision I had to make :)

Pics.

Note; blades are nearly identical in length....
SOG is NOT tan ... more green than it appears here.

I say stryker, never liked the over all feel of any SOG Ive handled. I love kershaws though too so to me its between the blur and the stryker.

+100 to the BM, IMO Sog knives are verrrry overpriced for what you get, ive owned a few so im not just making it up, the BM opens much faster has a better blade steel and the handles feel so much more solid. good luck with your choice and let us know what ya get!

Kershaw Avalanche - Stainless frame, G10 scales, assisted opening, black DLC blade of S30V and tough as nails. I wouldn't turn down a Benchmade 550HG either.
