Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum. I recently bought the SOG Aegis, I love the knife but have no use for the safety feature, I feel that it is useless and just adds weight to very light knife. Basically I disassembled the knife, took out the safety mechanism and put the knife back together. However, a hole was left on the handle where the safety used to be, that hole could allow dirt to enter the knife which is bad.

Materials: SOG Aegis, super glue, hobby knife, Sharp marker, sand paper, plastic card(white), masking tape, pencil. pliers(optional)

Step 1:disassemble the knife, and take out the safety bar and put the knife back together.

Step 2: put masking tape over the hole where the safety was and trace an outline of the hole.

Step 3: sand both sides of the plastic card, and attach the masking tape to the card.

Step 4: cut out the tracing on the tape, and check if the piece of plastic fits into the hole, make adjustments if needed by cutting.

Step 5: If you cut too much you can use pliers to stretch out the edges of the plastic.

Step 6: Super glue the plastic piece into place and colour with Sharpie marker

When I had my Aegis, I just superglued the safety in the off position. Waste of time though. The spring busted on it within 2 weeks.

That's too bad Quillan, I was actually going to try and super glue the safety bar, but the bond would not hold so I took it off and then realized that there was a big open hole that would collect dirt, and that's how I came up with this modification,.

hey RevDevil, what does DWTFYWD mean or stand for, I'm just really curious?

Do WTF You Wanna' Do? (Just a guess)

Have you considered filling the hole with epoxy? You could mask the outside then fill it from the inside with epoxy/epoxy putty, you could mix dye into the epoxy as you mixed it to match (or use a different color or even glow powder)

That is a really great idea, it would last longer than what I have at the moment and would look better. I will attempt to fill the hole when the plastic piece wears out, i'll post what happens. Thank you very much for the idea:)
