I just received my new sog aegis, & the assisted opening doesn't work (even a little) I can't find anyone online who has had this problem. I'm wondering if it's because I live in Canada, maybe they make it so it doesn't work.(I've owned bigger & nastier knives than this though) It still functions as a regular folder, just a little disappointed. I was expecting it to fly open.....also the arc lock on the side wiggles around in that little hole when it's open..I should have bought the cold steel counter point 1, that was my other choice..live & learn I guess....(still might get it)

Sounds like something is up. I have the Aegis (full sized and Mini) and both work very without any blade play. They both had blade play when I got them but I was able to get it out by adjusting the pivot and tightening the other screws. My point is if the pivot is too tight the AO won't open it. Is the pivot on yours perhaps tightened down so much that AO can't work? Also, the Aegis doesn't have an Arc lock, it is a piston lock with what SOG calls the Arc actuator which is used to disengage the piston lock. So are you sure you are talking about the lock or the safety switch that wiggles? Before you give up on the knife you should either take it back to the dealer or contact SOG if you can't figure it out with relative ease.

Where did you get it from? Did you contact the retailer yet? If you just got it you should be able to return it in any case.

I bought an Aegis. Piece of junk. Spring broke in 2 weeks. I threw it in the garbage. SOG is junk.

SOG has taken a severe hit in quality in the past year and a half, two years. I won't buy anymore of their stuff. They need to take their factory to Taiwan or even back to Japan. They're gonna be Walmart specials sooner or later, right up there with Gerber and Camillus.

Wow, just saying something is a piece of junk is of no help. Any manufacturer can have a failed part in a new knife. See the current thread on the ZT 0566 torsion bar failure. I wouldn't suggest anyone throw away a ZT or a SOG just because they had an obvious out of the box defect. That is just throwing money away no matter the brand!

I Have had a Flash II for 5 years, 2.5 of which was spent as an every day EDC. Still works just fine.

People really need to do some basic research before they come on here just say stuff. 99% of the sog assisted and automatic folders are assembled in the USA by American workers. The few that aren't are made in Taiwan. Their higher end folders with VG-10 are made in....you guessed it....Japan! There are only a few very unpopular folders that are made elsewhere (read China). Further, Most of their fixed blades are made in Taiwan. If we are going to talk about why we don't like something we need to at least get some of the facts correct.

Are there issues with SOG, yes. I won't buy many of their folders because they have weird designs and/or I feel they are not the best value for money. However, I could say that about most of the products of several other well respected manufacturers. The SOG folders I have work great and I will keep them in my EDC rotation though I have many more options. For me, it is SOG fixed blades where the company does it's best work.

To the OP, don't throw your knife away, that would be stupid. Take it back to where you got it or send it to SOG. Also, head over to the SOG subforum, you can contact the Mod there who works for SOG and he will take care of you.

The coil spring SOG uses can come out of the holes it is seated in. If you don't get. Ushers with the shop the fix isn't too hard. SOG is not junk.

yeah it's the piston lock that is loose when the knife is open, it doesn't start to unlock until about the halfway point. Until then there is no resistance. You could be right about the tightness, it does seem kind of stiff. & maybe I got a lemon...(It wouldn't be the first)....if I can't fix it, i'll use it as a beater...no great lose...thanx

The other SOG product I bought was the Blink. The spring broke on that in 3 weeks. So to me, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The Flash 1 is junk. The Twitch is junk. The Slim Jim is a joke. I wouldnt look twice at SOG again.
