SOG arc-lock durability?

I've been thinking of buying a SOG Tomcat 3 for a while now, but I'm not convinced by the lock. I came across the following article the other day:

http://tacticalknives.blogspot.com/2007/02/sog-arc-lock-knives.html

I friend of mine, who is a bit of a knife enthusiast, also claimed that the arc-lock would develop some bladeplay over time (by design). I'd really like to hear some experiences and opinions on the issue. How durable is the arc-lock, and do the springs "weaken" over time? I can't stand bladeplay on my folders..

The few I have had seemed to be strong enough and lockup was solid everytime I opened the blade. I guess this could be sour grapes from the response he got from the SOG CS.

I could be wrong but I thought that the arc-lock was like Benchmade's axis-lock. At least with the axis-lock it is self adjusting so that as it wears the knife should still remain without vertical play. Horizontal play is something that can adjusted at the pivot.

my 2 sogs in vg10 & arc locks are great after 5 months.one that is used to b.m. axis lock needs an adjustment to muscle memory. i think 2 years of use is the acid test on durability.

I used to have a Sog Pentagon Elite 2 with an arc-lock. I had it for 5 years and it did develop vertical blade play. It still locked up really tight but it would wiggle slightly, but not enough to effect the function of the knife. Nice big folder.

Every Arc lock SOG I've used or owned has had vertical blade play. Thats not to say the lock would fail, but all of them without exception wobbled pretty good, which doesn't build much confidence in the lock. Even most lock back blades I own (spyderco and buck) which are known for slight bladeplay wobble less for the most part.
