I'm looking around to buy a SOG arc-lock folder (looking at ebay since prices seems reasonable; if you've got better suggestions that ships in Canada let me know! :D)

I'm looking for something around 3" (blade) for EDC, and if possible under the 100$ mark; I was looking at the Vulcan mini or something similar

Anybody care to recommend/not recommend based on personal experiences?

Regards,

Welcome to the forums. How about I move this from the General Knife Discussion to the SOG forum. I'll leave a redirect, so people will still see it here, too.

There are lots of dealers who ship to Canada routinely. You could check prices for what you like on www.1sks.com (which owns Bladeforums), also www.knifeworks.com, www.newgraham.com, and www.knifecenter.com -- among many others.

Just make sure you specify they ship by USPS because I understand UPS sticks you guys with huge brokerage fees.

Knifezone.com is out of saskatoon, and I've had really good service from them, however they do have a hard time keeping their site updated, but they have always been really good about answering my questions. I got a seal team elite about a month after they dropped, so they keep good stock. good prices in general as well.

Most Sog Arc-Locks are fine knives. Most are now made with VG-10 steel now except for the Pentagon and Spec-Elite II.

Which one to choose is based on blade style preference:

Tanto- X-Ray Vision
Bowie - TomCat, Vulcan etc
Dagger - Pentagon
Drop-point "kinda" Bowie - Visionary, Spec-Elite, Stingray

The only thing to point out is that the blade to handle ratio in the Sog's is pretty even, 1:1. So when you look at a knife remember that a 3" inch blade means about the same size handle. So if you have big hands get a bigger blade. I personally like the Visionary because it has a thinner blade and makes a great cutter and slicer

Thanks for the advice Tom
I didn't really notice that 1:1 ratio; I don't have big hands but I like to have a good grip when needed (I find my Spyderco Endura 4 grip to be too narrow and my SOG Flash II to be correct if not a tidy bit too short)

I didn't consider the visionary but it seems to be nice; Damn the choice is hard! :P

Thank you all for your inputs!

The Pentagon Elites and Spec Elites were upgraded to VG10 not too long ago.
As for which Arc Lock knife I would choose, I don't actually have any but if I had to choose, it would probably be the Mini Vulcan!

PS: Chris, I believe I found a mistake on your website. It says AUS8 on the Spec Elite II specs page

Well that's it, I've got a Mini Vulcan in the mail, should arrive Monday at best :D
Best price I could find was on ebay for 113$ shipping and taxes included(and it was in the mail a few hours after the buy, incredibly fast for an ebay seller!), I'll keep you posted!

I missed this thread but I see you ordered the one that I would have suggested anyway :p.

just got my mini vulcan tanto off ebay too it took only 5 days from america to ireland i was very pleased with the price and speed too

Got mine last friday as well (at last! :P 7 days total, quite fast actually) and I love it

I was a bit "disappointed" of the opening "performance" at first, but untightening the pivot a little bit made it great; I particularly like the blade shape, you see they put effort in designing this one.

Handle is comfy and total weight is just perfect. Feels like much more quality than my Flash II Tanto I think (while ok, the handle on that one could have been a lot better)

Philmire, care to share the price you paid for comparison purpose?
Got mine from BK Global in Canada (BC), took 7 days to ship in Montreal (Quebec) and cost a total of 113$ shipped and taxes included
