SOG Arc Lock vs BM Axis Lock

Hi guys, I just recently received and BM Mini Grip and enjoy it a lot. However, I noticed that the (nubs?) from the axis lock kinda digs into my thumb and hurts a bit after frequent opening and closing. Is this basically just because of the shape of the nub? I also have a SOG Mini X-Ray with arc lock and it seems much more comfortable on my thumb and perhaps even smoother compared to the Mini Grip's axis lock. Anyone else here wanna share their opinions? Maybe my thumbs are just thin skinned?

i dissagree completely. i find the locking mechanism of SOG folder to be very coarse and undeveloped, i feel they tried to copy benchmade to a point but then put in the little rectangular thumb lock instead of the round one. i love the axis lock, and the entire thing is second nature to me. its all a matter of opinion tho, but for as much as i want to like the SOG folders, i think they need a lot of work before i pick one up :)

Haven't used an arc lock, but the axis locks have given me no trouble in the ergonomics or ease of use areas (or any area, for that matter). Can flick mine open all day long. Maybe your springs are unusually stiff?

Yeah, this has been done to death, but I'll chime in once more...

The Axis Bar can bind a bit in it's slot when new, but smooths out with use. The SOG Arc Lock swings on a pivot, so is generally smoother, especially when new; but SOG's quality control isn't as consistent as Benchmade's, so you'll get the occasional anomaly, like BadKarma's.

Just keep using your Mini Grip, it'll smooth up. If it doesn't, call up Benchmade, their customer service is the best around, they'll make it right.

I have both and perfer the BM Axis Lock. It just "feels" better to me. I am actually getting rid of all of my SOG's.

Their are alot of other threads you may like on this topic so try doing a search. I know what you mean about the SOG Arc lock feeling smoother but I have come to trust the Axis lock more because it is backed by benchmade and feels alot more solid. Also your Axis lock will break in after some use like it did on my BM Grip.
