sog arcitech

If you want FACTS, you should really try looking at the SOG website for the specs on the Arcitech. They provide just about all the FACTS that are available on the knife.

Or do you want opinions? Looked nice to me, not sure if it's worth the price tag though.

Short reply I own one and it's my favorite knife!

Long reply This knife is put together like a custom. Much attention is paid to details, e.g. the blade is San Mai with a VG-10 core and the part of the blade below the join line is even and symmetrical on both sides of the blade. I don't recall this much attention being paid in my other laminated blades (Seki-Cut, MCusta, Spyderco, Kershaw). The blade is also hollow ground with a mirror polish only on the grind....beautiful. The blade even has an abalone shell triplet in the reversible thumb stud that looks like an opal...very classy.

The frame of the handle is titanium with thick titanium bolsters and there are red jigged bone scales. There is a titanium back spacer that is either CNC milled or file-worked, not sure which, and gives the knife a custom look. The knife is designed for tip up carry and has a reversible pocket clip inserted in the butt end.
The knife uses SOG's Arc Lock which is externally like BM's AXIS lock which locks tightly and opens and closes smoothly, in fact I believe glass-like best describes the action.

The handle balances well in my medium size hand(s) and the fit and finish are what one would expect from a custom even though SOG has said they are making 50 Arcitechs a month.

I think the best news is that I've seen their list price discounted by 40% or more and , if you don't like jigged bone, they have a carbon fiber handle version coming out later this
year.

You can get the specs from SOG's website.

Where at in So. IL are you? If you're close to the StL area, gpknives in Troy, IL has one in stock that you can go and fondle. I don't think they have it listed on their website (not sure why), but it was in their case as of a few weeks ago.

It's a nice looking knife, although I would consider it a bit big for me to edc. Then again, I like small knives for my daily chores (edc a small Sebenza currently). Don't remember how much it weighed. Again, stats for the knife are available on SOG's website.

I'm waiting for the CF version that is coming out sometime this spring. If I like it, I'm planning on picking one up as I like the Arc lock and I'm a sucker for carbon fiber.

thanks for the info, but I live as far south as you can go in illinois, cant seem to get to stl except for ballgames, wife with me, you know how that is? yeah.......
