Hello :) I wanted to find out what SOG normally brings to their booth for the Blade show. I stopped by two years ago but can't remember anything of what was available for sale.

I'm looking to pick up a new SOG Bowie and Trident...have to replace the set I previously owned (sad story...would make you cry). Anyways I'd like to pick them out in person so I figured Blade '05 may be a good time.

Are these usually there for sale?

I've gone to both the SHOT show and to the GSA convention for SOG several years ago. I've also seen dozens and dozens of crates being prepped for shipping to shows all across America. They bring all their newest knives (including prototypes) for both display and possibly for sale. The prototypes typically are not for consumers to handle (and definitely not to buy) because they may be fragile, they are one of a kind (or two or three of a kind), and they are valued at tons of money (over $10,000 is not unheard of).

Regarding knives for general sale, it really depends...they may or may not bring some specifically designated for this purpose. They don't have much room to pack a ton of knives but at a minimum, they will definitely bring enough to stock their display cases (one/two of each).

Selling knives to end consumers is not SOG's main goal at these shows, but IF it happens, they'll plan ahead and bring some selected products. They will sell the display knives will only happen on the last day of the show; usually in the afternoon. If they choose to bring extra knives with the sole intent to sell to end consumers, they'll bring what products they think they might be able to sell. If they are at a tool trade show, they likely will bring extra multitools and utility knives. If it is a show like Blade or SHOT, they'll bring a more broad selection. Again, they don't have very much room for these knives, so if they do bring any extras, they'll bring them in small numbers; maybe 6 to 12 (more or less) of each...maybe more if they think it will be the hot seller of the show. But even if they bring them, it is sometimes based on subjective reasoning or it might come down simply to not having room this time (if they're bring other things on this trip).

Bottom line, I would not go to the show knowing you'll be able to pick up from SOG the knife in that you're most interested. There's a fair change you'll wind up picking it up through a local dealer or an online source.

Hope this helps.

Ron beat me to the punch once again. I guess that happens while on vacation. We usually do bring knives to the Blade show for sale. I can not guarantee what we will bring but will most likely be a selection of popular knives along with one of most every current production knife. We are not opposed to selling the display samples towards the end of the show (afternoon on the last day).

As for the knives you were looking for we will most likely have the SOG Bowie but not the Trident. The Trident is being discontinued and being replaced with the Trident II. A main difference is that the Trident II will have a little thinner stock (.240") than the original Trident (.280").

Be sure to come by at the show and say hi as I will be there. See you at the show.

.240"? That's so sad :( You just provided all the reason I need to hurry up and get a Trident before they are all gone :)
