SOG blase about counterfeits?

So, I happened to come across a seller in on in Oregon on eBay, mostly selling M-Tech and the like, but also selling obvious counterfeit SOGs (non-existent model) in a SOG box. Contacted seller, let him know that I felt that someone in Oregon selling a counterfeit SOG was a little low... he didn't get my point. I wouldn't waste my time for China sellers, but since it was a seller in Oregon, I e-mailed SOG to make them aware of the auctions. I received a response from the 'receptionist', who thanked me and told me they are aware of some counterfeit knives being sold under the SOG name. END OF STORY.

The said auctions continue. I suppose we should all thank SOG for apparently having such an open policy towards the counterfeiting of their knives and boxes?

Post the sellers ebay name (not a link to ebay though). Folks here can and will report such items. Over in the spyderco subforum we got ebay's attention of a guy selling fake PM2s. A bunch of us reported his item and the auction got pulled.

Unfortunately there are so many fakes of SOG knives on ebay, there is not a lot SOG could do. It would be a fulltime position to sit there and report them all. Further, ebay doesn't exactly have a vested interest in putting these counterfeit auction to bed. Unfortunately, we live in the day and age of the onus of avoiding fakes to be on the consumer. All of the fake SOG I have seen on ebay are really bad fakes. They look nothing like the models they claim to be. A little bit of research will almost wholly eliminate any chance of getting a fake SOG.

I wonder if they know that knowing failure to defend a trademark against other than minimal infringement may result in loss of ownership of the mark?

How important is the loss of ownership, when they are already being counterfeited, and sellers like ebay couldn't give a chit less? Oh wait....eBay is not responsible in any way, shape or form, since they are not the seller but...only a venue....according to ebay. That way they can accept all their commissions, with NONE of the responsibility. Kind of like Paypal, who have the privileges , but not all the restrictions of a bank. Both Paypal and ebay provide, for many, essential services, but both are extremely accomplished rip-off artists, in my estimation.

I betcha many people don't recall eBay's ill-fated attempt to start their own online payment service, which failed miserably. Their solution was not an improved service....ebay simply acquired Paypal. Competition eliminated, while at the same time giving ebay yet another source of income. Brilliant actually, especially since ebay made Paypal a mandatory method of payment (in general). Hard to deny that ebay/Paypal are very well run. That said, I wouldn't trust either company to any extent, and take precautions so as to have as little chance as possible to prevent them from locking my funds at their whim. As an aside, apparently Paypal will become a spinoff company some time this year, if current business news can be believed.

it would not surprise me if it was SOG making the fakes! Pushing for profit and why not if it sells than it sells just like their doo doo line of sub $100 fly off the shelves at Walmart why not make some extra money in Asia? Sure some may end up over here but who cares. They get paid either way.

On the same subject but another note I recently confronted a seller on ebay regarding a clearly fake cold Steel folder. He was very cavalier when he readily admitted that he was selling counterfeit products, got on his high horse when I mentioned that what he is doing is not only against ebay policy, but is illegal as well. Accused me of harassment and told me not to contact him again. Asked why I was busting his balls since he is such a stellar ebay seller with 100% positive feedback. I can only surmise that the counterfeit knife is a decent quality, so he buyers are too stupid to post negative feedback. shrug . That was a week ago, when I reported the auction to so-called ebay security. As usual ebay responded by saying that they would certainly look into the matter but couldn't inform me of what, if any action was taken, due to privacy restrictions. What a crock! They don't get back to you because they never take any action.

I noticed today that the auction ended with a sale, with no removal of the auction. So, the seller is a crook, ebay is crooked ( since they knowingly take their commissions from ebay fees and Paypal fees.).... On several fraudulent sales of this same item. The entire venue is a joke. The culprit and his product is below, in case he has the balls to list it again, at least some of you can avoid being ripped off.

You believe that you "know," and for all we "know," you are correct.

ePrey does not "know." Nor do they want to know.

I don't know if this is directed at anyone in particular but, as I so often find with your posts, this one is way too sophisticated/complex (nebulous?) for my simple mental capabilities, w/o further elaboration. .

If you go to the bay and look for a "Sog" knife to buy and find the seller in China, stop, go to Vegas, and bet on counterfeit, simple.
