Does anyone here have any experience with the SOG Bowie or Trident? They look like good knives but I've never heard any real feedback.

FWIW, I've been very pleased with my SOG-1 Bowie. The fit and finish are very good. I'm not sure if it's an accurate reproduction of the SOG knives that were used during the Vietnam conflict, but it is one helluva knife. For some reason I find the shape of this blade very appealing (so appealing in fact that I'm considering ordering on of the similarly-shaped SOG-Tech series of knives as a using blade). The balance is outstanding, and the blued (?) finish is a very nice alternative to the other finishes that are usually available in production knives. It's actually a little bit smaller than I had anticipated, but it is certainly more than sufficient in size for the type of tasks it was designed for. I really haven't put it too any strenuous use so I can't provide any informed evaluation on its edge retention or ease of sharpening. The factory edge is excellent. They're a little bit pricey for a production knife (although I seem to recall that there is a substantial amount of hand-finishing on these blades), but there are some good deals available on the 'net if you look around. The only (minor) complaint that I have is that the sheath that I received was not up to the same quality standards as the knife (minor cracks in the leather, flaking paint on the hardware, etc.)

MaxP-

The Sog Trident and Bowie are excellent & well constructed knives. Massive, thick blades and clean, well defined grind lines make for a pretty cool looking knife.

I have both a Trident and a SOG Tech. The SOG Tech is also a pretty stout knife.

Stay sharp,

Jim
