Im wondering how faithful to the original the SOG vietnam bowie is? who actually manufactured the original ? wasnt in the 5th but i recall at one point that we were supposed to get some knives, thought that they we randalls tho, but they never got to us anyway.

Having never handled an original one, I can't say for certain, but the finger-grooves look deeper. Also it was SK3 rather than SK5 steel.
There have been some threads on this topic. The current SOG Bowie is VERY impressive!

ChuckM: BobbyB is right on. The SOG-K Bowies are a quality product worth ever single cent, well above the rest. They would probably outlast and outwork the Nam era bowies if you had them tested today. (Man, I sound too much like Lynn Thompson already). But you get the picture ;-)

The original VN SOG bowies were made with much less care too, poor QC I understand. This is one reason why there are fewer original Nam era bowies around today.

The SOG Bowie is still my favorite !!

I plan to use it today to do some dinner prep cutting and chopping.... not fancy work, but any old excuse to give it some kind of a workout.

Cheers,

Carl
