How well built are the SOG Bowies for everyday outdoor use, woods , camping , survival, etc... Does SOG still make the Vietnam look a like MAC/SOG Bowie?

People have used SOG Bowies for outdoors and I heard they hold up wonderfully. Yep, SOG stills makes the MAC V style knife

I have these SOG bowies and have used 'em in the field, no problems at all:
Bowie (the original S1 model)
Recon Bowie
SEAL 2000
Super Bowie
Tigershark (the old model with carbon steel blade).

Cheers,

Carl

Lately I have been having a real problem with the SOG bowies. I picked up a limited edition carbon steel bowie cause I have always loved them but wanted the carbon one. Love the shape so much I bought a seal team. Beat the living crap out of it and it laughed at me. But it is not the same knife. Caught a deal on the 2.0 with the micarta handle and now it is with me every where I can take it LEGALLY.

Excuse my ignorance, but I've been looking for a Japanese made SOG Bowie. I see different model designations for what appears for the same knife. What is the difference between SOG99067 and SB1T? Is one made in Japan and the other in Taiwan?

There is a Sog super bowie ...the 7 inch blade I think all of them are made in Taiwan. Then the is the leather handled 2.0. 6 inch blade made in Taiwan sells for 130ish to 160 ish. The limited edition is the one made in Japan. It sells from 230 ish to 300ish and comes in a wooden box. The current micarta handled ones are all made in taiwan. I hope this helps and forgive my non-specific numbering. Someone will prob come along and get more specific in a bit.

Thanks clearytja for the info. I do have the SOG bowie commemorative model in a wooden box. I just snagged the #711. It's just too nice to use though.

Not much sense in owning then in my honest opinion :foot:

Yes, I feel the same way about firearms, cars, etc. - if you own it, use it.

Jeep... I am like you. I love to use my knives. I beat the crap out of my FFBM the day I got it...chipped my trident the second day and darn near stripped the tiger striping off my strider EB LT SS but the limited edition sog is very NICE.
