SOG CrossGrip Phillips Blade?

Am I doing something wrong or is the Phillips screwdriver blade on the SOG CrossGrip just plain impossible to use? Mine just flops around too much for me to apply enough pressure to use it. Has anyone figured out a way to make it work?

There appears to be enough space in the handle to support a real, if very short, Phillips blade. Why hasn't SOG upgraded?

I'm not trying to cause trouble. I like the CrossGrip quite a lot. I just can't figure out how to use that one implement effectively. Help?

Hi Bob,

The CrossGrip is a small and light duty tool. Unfortunately, a standard, four-sided Phillips screwdriver cannot be designed into this tool (we've tried, I promise :) ). This two-sided Phillips is available for smaller jobs.

I understand this isn’t the explanation or consolation for which you may have been looking, but I hope it helped.

I understand why you're limited to a lightweight two-sided blade. What I don't get is why it seems impossible to wedge it against anything to keep it straight. Whenever I try to turn it the thing tries to fold up on me. :(

I was trying to figure out what would help. Best I can come up with is to add a tab or U-bend to the Phillips blade that would wedge against the side of the channel to help hold it. Or maybe even bend the end of the channel inward slightly to keep it from rotating.

Despite that complaint, I really like the CrossGrip. I think I've tried every micro-plier available and this is the first one I've found that could do real work. :)
