I like to be contrary. I have a known tendency to go against the system and status quo.
Currently, if someone were to read this forum, they would believe that SOG knives were being made by monkeys with rocks, and had a collection of illiterate rejects for office staff.
I recently purchased a Powerlock 2.0, and decided to replace several of the tools. In fact, the reason I bought the powerlock, was for just that capability. I went online, and found that there were some problems with the shopping cart section of the site. I let this pass as I work with web designers, and I know just how hard it is to find people to do good work, and since web design is almost always done out-of-house, I let it slide.
I was however dreading making the call. Total time on hold, maybe 2 minutes, a blink in the larger scale of things. I talked to Carly I believe, and had my order set up very quickly, but was informed that due to a lack of customs forms, I would have to wait. again, not a SOG problem, just one that happened, no biggie. Oh, and can you send me some washers as well, not a problem, they will be in the bag.
week or so later I realized I'd forgotten one of the tools to add to the order, so I sent an email, and it was added, no problem at all, and coincidentally shipped the same day, all ended up in the same package, even though Carly thought it had already gone out. color me pleased!
I got the tools, and low and behold, they were just what I expected, save one, it was from older stock, and didn't work with the powerlock 2.0 latches. A pic and email later, and a new stock one was on its way to me.
I payed no shipping in all of this, no "send it back and we'll see" no"well, that can't happen" just quick service. yes these are on average 6$ parts, but I've had worse service from places I've spent more at.
maybe some other people got caught on bad days, who knows. A story has at least two sides, and often we only hear one. I'm not calling anyone a liar, and I'm not out to pick a fight. I just think that it is just as fair for someone to get a "job well done" when deserved, as they are a complaint when one is earned.
I've seen it mentioned that some think that knife companies should somehow find "knife" people for their day to day office staff. Personally, I'd rather work in an office with a secretary who was good at their job first who could learn the industry, than one who knew the industry but could not run a multi-line phone. I've been on both sides.
As for the Powerlock, I'll be dropping a review off in the multiool sub in the next little while, but I'm as happy as I can expect with it. some people seem the want the products that were available 50 years ago, and I'm sure Chris and the guys would love to produce that same quality, but such is the way of the world, and I'll be happy with something that gets the job done, regardless of what I think it should be like.
