SOG Demo knife

Got in my SOG Demo a few days ago from Amazon. They said it was the last one, and they still had the wrong picture on the ad. Really nice knife! Keened up the blade and serrations up a little, and bored through the hole at the bottom of the sheath. Great balance, and the knife is really sharp. Took it out in the woods, and did a little cutting and batoning with the knife. Good balance for light chopping, and the batoning worked well. Even tho the serrations chewed up the baton some, there was plenty of other wood for a new baton. The serrations cut the pieces of rope that I had on hand with no problem, largest being a little larger in diameter than my thumb. Too cold to get in the water with it, but I think this new configuration would work well in the water. If it were going to be used as a dedicated dive knife, i would have a kydex sheath made, 'cause the leather won't hold up well in that environment. My 2 cents...

I received my Demo today and am pretty satisfied with it. It is smaller than the on-line photos make it appear. It feels good in the hand, and I would say is about the perfect length for me. It's extremely sharp.
I like the checkered rubber grip. It is squared off on the top, and has finger grooves on the bottom. Makes for a rock solid grip on the knife. The hand guard is another feature that appeals to me.

I paid $139.95 for it at Blade HQ. One thing I noticed though, that I don't like. The pommel turns about 1/8 in. back and forth with finger pressure. Is this normal? Is there a way to tighten it?

I bought a SOG Creed, and received it last week. The pommel turns on that one also.

Unfortunately, I think you will need to send them in to SOG so they can tighten the spanner nut on the back. It is a proprietary design and I don't think you can find the wrench for it.

It is a common complaint that SOG does not tighten the spanner nut very tight and does not use lock-tite to secure it. I am not sure why this is their practice.

Perhaps Chris can comment?

Alrighty then...... To solve the loose pommel problem, I called SOG, but the warranty and service guy was out to lunch. I waited all day, but never got a call back.
I found an old post somewhere online, that described how to cut a paper clip, and bend it into a U shape. Take that, and stick it into two of the holes in the spanner nut, and use a pair of long nose pliers to grip the clip and turn until tight. I did this, and problem solved.
I then went online again and found a pair of circle pliers (also called split ring pliers?), made in China, for a little over $5.00. They are the ones with the ends bent down 90 degrees. I bought it just in case I ever need to tighten the pommel again. I'm sure the pliers will work better than the paper clip, but so far so good.
The guy from SOG called the following day and left a message, but since I had solved the problem already, I didn't call him back.

Good fix! That sure saves the hassell of shipping it back to SOG, even tho I'm sure they would have made it good. Put a little loc tite on it, and the problem is solved forever!
