SOG Fasthawk Uses?

Hey guys, it's been a while! So I was reading around and I found out that the SOG hawks aren't too loved here. Mediocre steel, poor construction design, etc. Well I ordered a Fasthawk b/c it was only $20 including tax and shipping and it's my first hawk ever so I have no idea what these guys are capable of. I've come to terms with the fact that hawks are more weapons than they are tools, but as someone who tries to get the most out of something, I was wondering what could the Fasthawk be used for besides killing?

How does the Fasthawk handle with torque and prying? Can it be used as a prybar or will it just give out? There's got to be more uses for it than just a weapon.

PS: I will be wrapping my Fasthawk as well so if anyone has done that too feel free to share your wraps. I'm thinking strider weave for the handle and either strider again or some makeshift weave for the base of the head.

Scope out abandoned buildings and prying into windows and doors? Those buildings and property are still either privately or state owned. Your trespassing at best and probably a few stacked felony B and E charges that could easily be tacked on. Just a heads up.

As far as how the SOG hawks deal with torque........they don't. The head/handle connection will immediately weaken. I have gone through several SOGS testing how well they breach.

Check those state laws before you wind up in some serious trouble.

Thanks for your concern on the trespassing part. There's just lots of abandoned little farm buildings about 30 minutes from where I live. Highly doubt anyone one will care to be honest. I'm more afraid of what they might do once they see me strapped up with a knife, a tomahawk, hammer/crowbar while filming the whole thing. People don't take too kindly to being recorded. I figured the head might not be able to take too much torque. I'd probably be better off just smashing the plywood huh? Any tips since you've tried breaching with them? Does anything work?

My SOG Fasthawk will chop plywood "ok" for something of its size and weight. I had to reprofile the edge after I used it the first time. On the example I have the original edge was too thin to be properly used as a hawk. I had to take out a dent in the edge and establish a small microbevel to bring it to its fullest potential.

I've seen a bunch of people on Youtube that redid either the spike, the blade, or even both. The full size seems to be able to get thru plywood pretty quick with its larger spike. I might end up reworking the spike if I have the time. Otherwise I think I might just sharpen the blade.

I reworked my spine too, Make it almost a reverse tanto point. It looks sloppy but it works great.

Tomahawk should arrive tomorrow. I'm probably just going to wrap it first if my new spool of 550 cord comes in. I'll post pics once it's done.

One of my main questions is can it be used for breaching doors and prying? I figured the two piece design of the head isn't great for dealing with torque but has anyone tried say, prying plywood off a window or something? I'm mainly going to be using this Fasthawk on my rig for when I go scope out abandoned buildings (kind of a weird hobby of mine) so I want to know if it'll be good for getting rid of plywood or popping open a door. In other words, will it be able to do what a pry bar/crow bar can to some extent? I probably should have gone with the Fusion Tactical Tomahawk if I wanted something more useful as a tool but I just don't like how top heavy it is. So please, shine some light. Much appreciated!

Breaking and entering. Criminal mischief. Vandalism. Criminal trespassing(yep you're carrying what you freely admit is a weapon so that bumps it up from trespassing to criminal trespassing). And you're only argument to the contrary for breaking these laws is that you probably won't get caught? Seriously? Did it occur to you that maybe you shouldn't commit what are pretty serious crimes because it's the right thing to do? Your hobby makes you a criminal. You might want to get a new one.

...and he films it. That's pretty funny I must admit. I bet the cops will love that!

For whatever it's worth......I can see how this "discussion" if you will, could easily go several directions.......none of which positive. This thread should be locked.

Doesn't need to be positive in any sense to be a valid thread. As long as the OP and the mods are okay with it, then it will remain open. Although this would be better suited for Prac-Tac

Didn't mean to start anything criminal. I just like to visit abandoned places. It's interesting to see what happens when man leaves something for good and doesn't come back to it. I'm not here to debate ethics and laws, I'm just here to learn about what other uses people have used the SOG Fasthawk for.

So for anyone who is still interested, this is what I've done with the head of my Fasthawk. I totally spaced out and didn't check for any play before I wrapped it so fingers crossed that there wasn't any. Shrank the cord so there's no slack. Gives me a better sense of security in terms of the head being attached. I tried a strider weave on the handle as well, with the knots spaced between the grooves of the grip; did not feel good at all. Going to try a cobra weave maybe. Also going to wrap the sheath so that I can strap it up to my molle bag.
