SOG field Pup- $40
Fallknive F1- $130
RAT RC 3 - $95

why the big price difference? I am assuming it has to do with the metal. The only one I have had experience with is the field pup which I abuse regularly with very little wear to show for it. In addition, its razor sharp and keeps that way despite aggressive batoning, wood carving, chopping etc. I have a RAT 3 on order but I suspect it wont impress me more than the field pup.

I think that in the long term or for heavy use, you will find the Rat or Fallkniven to be better than the SOG. They have much stronger steels and will have differences in edge sharpness and retention andcutting ability.

I have heard a lot of good things about the seal pup but I think you'd be better off with fallkniven or rat

I broke a field pup pulling weeds! I was digging, but not that hard... and it's the only knife I've ever broken during use.

I'm surprised to here that you broke the field pup. I am sure SOG would replace it for free. However, that said, I have been able to split several 3 inch pieces of logs with that knife using a heavy baton and still shave hair off my arm. The only wear I have noticed is where the rubberized handle material meets the knife hilt. Its a little torn due to the heavy batoning.

Either way, I have ordered both the RAT cultlery 3 and the Fallkniven F1 and I hope to be impressed.

How does everyone like to carry these types of knives? I just cant get into the belt sheath carry. I prefer to put paracord on a kydex sheath and wrap it around the neck or stuff it into a pants pocket.

I don't have the F1 but you can carry the rc3 in so many different ways it's ridiculous.

No RAT 3, but a RAT 7 (pre RAT v Ontario) and a Fallkniven WM1. I would think that the F1 is a little large for pocket or neck, but the WM1 may be a contender, check it out.

I own a F-1. I checked out all of those above. The RC3 is 1/8" thick and has a coating + handle might be too short for me.

The field pup not worth considering.

The F-1 is 3/16ths thick, perfect handle, and tough as nails. Excellent edge geometry which translates in to awesome cutting power. On the down side, the sheath sucks!!! You will have to purchase a new sheath. I got one for $50. It is well worth the cost.

Good luck

the RC-3 is absolutly stronger than a Taiwan made field pup.the RAT Cutlery knives are wade from 1095 carbon steel and have a flat grind & the Field Pup his hollow grind AUS-8

I have a Field Pup. I like it. Comparing the Field Pup to the F1 and RC3 is not a good comparison. Try out the SOG Seal Pup Elite plain edge and the comparison will be closer. The Seal Pup Elite is an excellent blade.

I don't particularly like a real thick steel for day to day tasks. I find them a bit clumsy.

But the SP Elite gives you a bit more strength for camping chores. I'm not putting down the F1 or RC3, but the elite is an excellent knife.

The seal pup elite plain edge is a good knife but the spine rasps is not the best thing for good piercing ability & the hollow grind not the best for a (tactical) knife.

A seal pup elite plain edge without spine rasps would make a good hunting knife.
