Hey all - considering picking up a SOG Field Pup (NOT Seal Pup...don't want serrations) from Walmart. My biggest reasons for this are 1.) I've got $15 in Walmart gift cards, and 2.) I've read more than a few pretty good reviews/opinions about the knife, especially for a general use camp/utility blade with decent steel (which would be it's intended use...survival as well if it really came to it, but I've got a Benchmade Rant for that). Also the sheath seems to be really good for the money. With the gift cards I'd be able to grab it online for $15 essentially.

Any thoughts on this blade from anyone, especially from those who've used it? My only hesitation is the slight recurve...is that gonna prove to be a pain in the arse to sharpen when the time comes? Didn't really think about it until I read an earlier post here that mentioned that as a concern. If not the Field Pup, any recommendations for what to use the gift cards toward that is currently offered on Walmart's website? I'm more in the market for a fixed blade, but was also considering the Kershaw Skyline if I go the folder route (my current user is a Kershaw Whirlwind assisted-opening and Leatherman Charge AL).

At this point I'm pretty much sold on the Field Pup so long as the recurve won't really be a nightmare for sharpening...if you couldn't tell haha.

Thanks in advance!

There's nothing wrong with a Field Pup. It's a little on the small side, but SOG fixed blades are reliable, good quality knives. The Skyline is also a excellent, budget-priced knife. They also carry the OD-1, which is good if you like the functionality of a wharncliff blade. Pick one and go for it.

Thanks Dallas - any thoughts on that recurve and sharpening?? Appreciate the input!
