I just landed a NIB Sog Field X-42 and I was wondering what your guys opinions on this knife is. I have a field pup I use just for cleaning game and I figure the X-42 would be that much better. This knife will primarily be used for field dressing deer and boar. I have always wanted one of these and I was going to get a duratech Team Leader but figured this design was better for the purpose. Hey Chris any chance of bringing these back. Thanks again guys.

Awesome Knife, Congrats !!

I had one a couple of years ago to find out what an "exotic steel" was all about. I discovered I didn't have the tools or technology or skill to sharpen that comparatively rock-hard steel.
Fortunately my pal Tim did and I was amazed at the scary-sharpness of the blade, I'd never experienced anything like that. See the last post of this thread for words about "sharp":

Then a pal of mine kept whining he wanted my Field Knife, so......

Sometimes waiting is fun and sometimes it's a pain. Hope the knife arives soon. I sharpen mine with a E-Z-Lap M series Diamod hone. If anyone isn't familure with it, it's a medium grit diamond rod that can fit in your pocket. I sharpen both my X-42 Field knife and my Outdoor Mini Auto clip on it. Leaves a toothy edge which I like for both of those knives. was just cutting steaks with them and they both performed perfectly. :) Congrats on the new knife!

I'm waiting for my Field Knife to return and it's a pain.....

Carl, your old Field knife is living well here, don't worry. I'm feeding it steaks, roasts and veggies. Used it to cube a roast for chili Saturday, then cut up salad greens. With it's toothy edge it's a mean slicer. And I think it's quite happy here in Utah. ;)

Awesome I just picked up another BIN X-42 for $125.00

Congrats on the new X-42! Hope you can use it on an outdoor excursion soon. I'm thinking of bringing mine on a campout this weekend or maybe the 12th and 13th. :)
