I own 3 older SOG fixed blades, and the all have kraton handles. I've been reading that a lot of SOG's fixed blades have zytel or GRN handles.

I've never held one of the fixed blades with zytel or GRN handles, so I can't say I know what it feels like. so those of you who have held one of those knives, how does it feel without gloves?

why do SOG choose zytel or GRN over kraton?

The GRN might feel a little bit slippery when wet. But it is just like hard, dense plastic. Without gloves, you can develop some hotspots. The reason why SOG uses GRN, especially on the SEAL-series is because it is almost impervious to warping, cracking, UV, elements, chemicals, salt, fluids etc. I take GRN over kraton(or any other rubberlike material anyday) any day. FYI. I had a snapped SEAL Pup Elite, and I wondered how the tang looked like. So in order to get the GRN handle off. I had to hammer a 10 kg dumbell several times on the handle for it to crack:) It feels cheap, but it is one of the toughest handlematerials out there as far as I know.
