SoG Flash 1 or Spyderco Tenacious?

I'm contemplating on whether I should get a SoG Flash 1 or a Tenacious. I know that Flash 1 has some side to side play but that can be fixed so I'm not concerned about it. But I don't know witch one I should get. Any Ideas? Thanks.

For the price, I'd say both. I've got both and both are solid knives, especially for the money. I think I like the feel of the Tenacious a little better.

Pretty big size and weight difference between the 2. What will its primary function be? I received a Flash 1 as a gift a year a go and it while it's not a bad knife I prefer my Spydercos. I was able to easily take out all the side to side play on the SOG and the 2 1/2" FFG AUS 8 blade is rather useful.

Can you hold them both before buying? The SOG can be difficult for some people to even hold when opening.

The SOG has better steel, IMO. I just don't care for it though.

I've had a couple of Spyderco's, but it's been years since I carried any. Of the two, I'd pick the Tenacious.

If it were me, I'd be looking at something from Kershaw or one of the Kabar Dozier folders. $20 for AUS8 and they are nice knives too.

I`d buy a SOg Flash 1 over Spydy Tenacious. I`d buy a SOG twitch over FLash 1. I would buy a CRKT Drifter over either. I own all 4.

IMHO the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 may be a more "apples to apples" comparison to the SOG Flash 1 Weight and blade length are closer. Of the two I'd prefer the new Dragonfly, especially since it now has jimping as well as the finger choil AND now with a wire clip. The downside is the Dragonfly is more expensive than both the Flash 1 and the Tenacious, but you do get VG-10 blade steel. If price is the obstacle though you might want to consider the Spyderco Persistence, which is the Tenacious' 'lil brother (and its a few dollars less).

I just typed up a long post about how much I prefer the Tenacious and really hate SOG folders, but then I accidently deleted it, so.....Long story short,
Spyderco Tenacious greater than SOG flash 1.

Isn't really a big deal - fellow SOG folder hater here. :D

There's really a lot of choices in between the two. Examples would be the Kershaw Leek, the Kershaw Skyline and the Spyderco Delica 4, to name a few. You should look around a while before you decide.

I used to hate it when I did that. I type long replies in Word now and when it'd done, I cut and paste it into the reply box. I don't have to worry about losing it that way.

Spyderco > SOG

Spyderco has the research, the QC, the customer service, the integrity, the originality and more. And I'm not a fan of AOs.

Are you open to other suggestions? Because I'd get an Ontario RAT folder over either of those. Keep in mind also that these are two very different knives. The flash is light, assisted, and has a much smaller blade. The tenacious is kind of like a cheaper Chinese version of what made Spyderco famous. If I didn't have any of the knives that I do and had to pick between these two, I'd choose the tenacious. But there are quite a few other options in that price range.

Of the two, I'd go with the Spyderco. Owned a Flash II for a short while and returned it. I wasn't impressed with the safety lock system and the overall feel of the Zytel handles. Took it back and bought an S30V Blur instead.

I have a SOG Flash 2 and several spyderco's, I got a Tenacious for my dad and had a week to get a feel for it, sharpened it up, opened and closed, etc. While the AO on the SOG is fun to play with sometimes (the only AO I have) and the ARC Lok is easy to manipulate, I definitely prefer the Tenacious, G10 is grippier, and just feels more quality than the zytel/plasticy feel of the SOG, the SOG also has blade play both vertical and horizontal that I just tried to adjust out, I got the horizontal blade play out, but can't get the vertical blade play out and still open the knife. I don't like the combo edge of the SOG, the steels are about the same ease of sharpening and edge holding from my experience. I also like the jimping on the tenacious, while the Flash doesn't have jimping at all. One other knife you might look at in the same price range is the OD-1 from kershaw it has better steel IMO, is a frame lock/g10 handle, I got mine on clearance for $20.

they are very different knives. If you want an everyday carry knife go for the SOG. If you want a work knife go for the Tenacious.
