Some of you may have seen my other threads asking about a good 2.5" folder for my needs. I've narrowed it down to either the SOG Flash 1 or the Spyderco Alemite Walker.

SOG:

Spyderco:

Now, I really like the deep pocket carry feature of the SOG, but I know I could easily rework the clip on that Spydie to do just the same thing.

So, which would you rather have?

Does anyone know where I can find that Spyderco knife online? Also does anyone know the blade steel and blade length of it? I'm leaning towards it, as long as the blade is 2.5" and of good steel.

Thanks guys.

Blue Almite Walker:

The Spyderco Walker Knife features a 2 5/8" drop point blade made of VG10 stainless steel. The blade has a top swedge, and Spyderco hole for ambidextrous one hand opening. The aluminum handle with gray blue Almite coat, 3 5/8" closed, has the Michael Walker Liner lock and a lanyard hole. A metal pocket clip mounted at the butt end of this Spyderco knife. The Spyderco Walker Knife with Blue Almite handle has an overall length of 6 1/8" when open.

They are becoming rare, as they were a sprint run, which is all the more reason to choose it, not to mention it being a much higher quality knife than the SOG. They can be had for about $70 at this point, but you can expect the price to keep rizing as the sell out. Some knife stores are already out of them.

I'd go with the Walker. I've had that knife and really liked it . While I haven't had that SOG, I had a TwitchII and it had A LOT of blade play regardless of how tight it was and the spring ended up breaking after about a month and a half. I really didn't find it held an edge very well, either. That said, I liked the look of it, but looks aren't everything. Spyderco, man, Spyderco.

I have to go the other way, I have had the flash and really liked it, never played with the walker. The blade held a sharp edge, but I do think that it should hold the edge longer than it did ( had to debone/ cut up some deer. It made it though 1 buck and 1/2 a doe be for it needed a touch up. It was easy for me to sharpen(I suck:cool: )

I would go for the Spyderco. Whenever I hold the Flash I can't help but wonder where the rest of the handle is. I got the same feeling from the Kershaw Chive. An AO knife should have enough to hold onto when the blade pops out. And I do not have very big hands.

I'm getting the distinct feeling that the knife is gonna sell out at gpk with that link up.

Well I just bought the Walker on Ebay with a buy it now price of $65. The shipping made it cheaper in the end compared to Praire Knives, and this one seemed to have more of a grey colored handle vs the blue on Praire. I'll post pics when I get it.

:)

Well, in true BladeForums fashion, I ordered both. :-P

I'll try them both out and see which fits my needs best, then sell the other. I do understand the spyderco has better steel, and is of higher quality. However, my original point to buying a new knife was something a little cheaper than my Leek I wouldn't mind "banging around."

I got the Walker for $70 shipped on ebay, and the Flash for $41 shipped on ebay as well. Both are expected to arrive the same day, so look for a mini review of each and pics soon.

Thanks for the help guys.

As with all of the Almite coated Seki Spydies, the Walker is a real winner. You won't regret the purchase. I can't speak for (or against) the SOG as I don't own one but the handle looks awfully thick from the pics. The next planned Almite coated Seki Spydie is a remake of the old Copilot, due sometime this summer.

Those Walker pics are mindbending. The top one is correct. The bottom one is seemingly made for lefties. To my knowledge, no lefty versions were made.

Photoshop?

Yeah, I saw that too. I dunno, I saw real time pics of the one I bought and it was a right handed version. I think they just did that as an advertisment.

No, the knife has a cut out on both sides for some reason. The picture is exactly what the knife looks like.

But then it would have to have holes for the pocket clip on both sides too, which it doesn't.

Therefore, the picture is kinda odd...
