SOG Flash 1

Same issues with mine pretty much, clip and blade play are bad, even if I tighten the pivot down as far as possible it still has blade play. The lock rattle I fixed by taking it apart and putting dielectric grease (silicone) under the lock bar. Now it only moves if you move it. I also took the locking bar for keeping the blade closed out when I opened it.

Nutnfancy praises it...then it must be outstanding...hehehe. I got mine after watching his vid:eek::D

I hate the very non ergo. handle...and the obligatory Sog blade play.

Had one for quite awhile, mostly picked it up so my Flash 2 would have a little brother ;)
I'm pleased with it, taking it for what it is: an inexpensive, small, very light little knife, certainly ont a heavy use knife.
The Flash's designs are a bit odd, but I kind of find them "interesting".

Definitely would not pay $60 for it...much better choices at that price point, but for the $32 I got it for its saticfactory.
From a purely practical standpoint would a Spyderco Tenacious, Kershaw OSO Sweet or Skyline be better choices for even less cash? Probably. But they will be bigger and heavier.

In the closed position, the blade relasse does slide easily, as it does in the Flash 2. They have changed the release on the 2 to the "arc'd" type, which I'd guess may eliminate that...don't know if they are making the same change to the 1.
Since I don't tend to shake my knife very often, it really doesn't bother me much.

As to the "obligatory" blade play, mine has none. Actually, I have numerous SOGs and maybe I have just been lucky, but none of them have any perceptible blade play.

I have/had 3 Sog Trident, 2 Flash 1, 1 Flash 2, 1 Aegis all of them have blade play (most up and down ) side to side can be adjusted so most of the "play" disappears but not all...very annoying. If Sog want to survive they have to get a "grip" on things IMO. Personally I´m done.

I just sold mine but mostly because of the ergonomics. It just didn't sit well in my hand so I didn't carry it. I can't comment on the clip because I took it off soon after getting it.

ive never had any issue with blade play on my sog flash 1, its actually seved me pretty well, just only for light duty stuff. my only real issue is aus-8 and the pocket clip bending. i dont really mind the handle, not the best but its really such a small knife that i dont mind

I bought mine as a cheap beater knife, about $60(CAD), and I considered it money well spent.

Apart from feeling cheap, it felt fine. Fit my hand, cut well, kept a keen edge, was easy to sharpen, easy to carry, easy to bear if I lost it, and it kicked open like an angry mustang. Blade play came with the price point.

I used it at work from time to time for about a year before I finally wrecked the lock while batoning firewood. I didn't expect the knife to survive such a chore, but I was curious that it might, desperate for firewood, and in either case was not afraid of destroying it. Before the lock failed, it did take quite a beating, and actually went through several 2-3" pine logs before finally giving in. When I took the ruined knife apart, I saw that the plastic surrounding the lock had been deformed, only slightly, but slightly enough to allow the lock to disengage.

So, I had fun, and I learned a thing or two about the tolerances of that knife, and those materials. I wonder if the aluminum handled version would have fared better.
