SOG Flash 2: pending happyness

Okay, so my first SOG knife came in the mail earlier today; the Flash 2. I knew from online reviews to expect a little side to side wiggle in the blade -but that it was easily adjustable via the pivot screw -which it was. HOWEVER...

There is a lot of up and down play!!!:barf: I was in complete disappointment with the knife; Up and down wiggle is unacceptable. I called the SOG warrantee number and was very polite. The representative assured me that the up/down wiggle would go away after about a week and that the problem would "buff" itself away... Well I hope so. It is counterintuitive to imagine that up and down play can be remedied by simply opening and closing the knife for a week, but that is what I was told, and so that is what I am going to do until the problem goes away or I have to send the knife in under the warrantee. I will keep you up to date on this after the week goes by. I Really don’t want to send my knife through warrantee.

Have any of you experienced this with a SOG Flash 2? Does the wiggle really go away?

I can say with a lot of confidence that if a knife came to you with a lot of up and down play, it will only get worse, not better. It won't "buff" itself away like the customer service representative advised. Bad tolerances.

Have you tried tightening the pivot or taking the knife apart to see what could be adjusted to make the blade play go away?

I have adjusted the pivot screw, but it does nothing for the up/down play. It does cure the side to side play though.

I would take it apart, but I dont want to screw it up or void the warrantee. THis is my first assisted knife, so I dont know what to expect taking it apart.

It is a shame for such a nice/sharp blade to have up-down wiggle. In all honesty, I think it will end up in the mail headed to warrantee town.

Send it in. That blade play will haunt your dreams... as long as your have a backup EDC knife, send it in. I'm sure SOG will make it right.

Judging on how freakishly (and properly) sharp the blade is I know they respect their knives and will treat it right if and when I send it in.

Thanks c minor
