SOG Flash 2

Thanks I was just about to buy one, but thought I would ask.

How do you feel about the strength of the handle compared to other zytel handles?

Very strong for cutting chores, no problems. My son has carried one for many years with no problems at all except occasional clip adjustment.

These are good carry knives.

Robbie Roberson. ;)

No liners in the zytel handles which I like because it keeps the knife light, which is nice for EDC. Its strong enough with out a liner IMO

No metal liners in the zytel. I have one in front of me while I'm typing this.
Great little knife. It takes a bit of getting used to if you have big hands like me but I carry it everyday on the jobsite and put it to work every chance I get. So light you can't tell you forget you even have it with you. ;)

Carried one for about a year and a half. Clip snapped off in the first six months and made the lock fail within a year. I can make the lock fail easily and the knife is only safe to use as you would a slip joint. The flaw is due to the zytel handles. the aluminum handled one would keep the lock from failing. Basically if you grab the spine of the blade and try to close the knife you can easily force the plastic above the locking bolt to flex upward and this allow enough room for the locking part of the blade to push past the lock bar. If you got a lot of dust in the knife or didn't clean it every 6 months it would get really hard to close or unlock. This knife doesn't like to get dirty. On the other hand it was an excellent slicer and held an edge well. I have carried an endura 4 for the last 3 years and have had no problems using it the same as the Flash II. It is a good light duty to medium duty knife but will not hold up well to hard use.

the aluminium ones are good , ive beat the hell outa mine using it as a work knife , couldn`t fault it. it even went through the washing machine once , i just dried it out an re lubed it and its still going hard

Too late now guys, I bought the zytel version and already had a problem with it. I am in the process of sending it in through the warrantee service. I posted about the problem if you are interested in teh SOG forum under "SOG Flash 2: Pending happyness."

The problem was bladeplay -it has a whole lot of up/down play. I think they sent me a defected knife since nobody else ever mentioned this much blade play. I can hear it rattle when I wave it around in the open position.
