Hey Gang:

I read a lot of back and forth about the Sog Flash 2, can somebody give me a good review on this knife...If I could get it for 20-25 bucks would that be a good deal?

I used a trident and flash2 for EDC and duty carry for about a month and by the time that month was over the springs were shot-they became overpriced manuals with mushy edges that looked cool. Get any sort of sand or water or anything in that action and it's screwed.

I have one. Out of the box it had a lot of bladeplay in all directions. Side to side blade play was fixable by tightening the pivot screw, but the up and down blade play will never go away. SOG wont fix it either, they say that a little blade play is okay and that it does not affect the knife.

For me, blade play is embarasing because it shows others that you dont have good taste in quality manufacturing. One guy figured out how to take it apart and dremel out some extra metal in order to tighten the lock up. If you can handle that project I would say it is worth a try.

There are a lot of knives in the 25-35 dollar price range that are a lot better than a FLash 2 IMO. If you save up a little more money, even more knives become available.

Aside from blade play, the knife is really nice. If you can get over that problem -you may like the knife a lot.

I bought a kershaw skyline for 35 from walmart insted of the 25 dollar sog flash ll I was looking at , all I can say is kershaw sure can make a great knife!

Personally, I have a SOG Flash I that I use when carrying a larger more conspicuous folder is not possible. A larger Flash II does not fit my EDC use, although I would consider one for $20, just to play with. BTW, now that I have a Spyderco Dragonfly, it may replace the SOG Flash I for lightweight EDC. The SOG carries very deep in the pocket that most people would never notice it.

Byrd, CRKT Lightfoot, RAT-1, kershaw junkyard dog, there are alot of decent folders out there for 30 dollars.

I have one. It has yet to do wrong by me - makes a great lightweight beater folder. I used mine for cutting duct tape, duvotene, roofing tar, and other stuff that leaves gum on the edge.

There's blade play in all directions and no way to fix it.
The handle is all plastic, the only metal is in the lock, so it's very light.
Most of the weight is in the blade, so it kicks open with some decent authority. Had mine for seven months so far with no problems.
AUS8 is cryo-quenched, and responds to use quite well.

All the same, there's better knives for the money. A Skyline, for instance.

I've had my sog flash II for two and a half years now, and it still opens great. I've even dropped it a few times, and it is fine, although sometimes when it is dropped it will open up on its own. I fine it stays closed more times than not, though. Mine has some slight blade play from keeping the pivot pin a little loose so that it opens up a little faster. As far as I can tell it doesn't show any signs of dying any time soon, and I carry it just about EVERYWHERE I go. I really enjoy it, and I'll even play with it when I just need to waste time. It seems like I've heard more complaints on the more recently made ones. Maybe they have let there QC go even more. I like the shape of the blade, and I've read people talking about how they don't like the clip, but I have to say that personnally I like it. I have noticed that the edge of the pocket, where I keep the knife, is starting to fray a bit, but is not a problem. The knife I have is a keeper, but from what I hear it sounds like you should go with a different brand, unless you want to take that gamble.;)

there is not one single thing that i liked about my sog flash 2 except that i got rid of it, pure garbage

I had a Flash II. I liked it a great deal. Thought it had one of the best blade shapes around. Drop point full flat grind about .10" thick. Great cutter, AUS8 is fine for my uses. The handle fit my hand pretty well but that's subjective. There was a little play but not enough to really notice in actual cutting. I gave it away because it was longer than the allowed length in my city, not because it failed me.

Have the Flash 1; carry it where a larger folder isn't practical; would I buy another one or a II; no, the clip broke off the second day I had it so I just carry it in my pocket; lots of other better knives around.
