I haven't been able to find any information on this. I'm a huge fan of SOG's SAT knives. I've been carrying these knives for years. Specifically the Flash I and II, Aegis large and mini and a few different models in the Trident series. The other day the lock failed on my mini Aegis. There couldn't have been more then 10 lbs of force being applied. I did end up cutting myself and I probably shouldn't have been using it the way I was but that doesn't seem like much. I'm certain I didn't disengage the locking mechanism by mistake either. The knife has a bit more up/down play now but otherwise opens and seems to lock up like it should but I'm not sure if I want to use it anymore.
I know the ARC lock is rated at over 1000 lbs of force which seems reasonable considering it's design. How are these knives suppose to compare?

the flash, aegis, and trident don't have sogs arc lock. they have the arc actuator lock, its a lesser version of the arc lock featured on there higher end folders. the arc actuator isn't a bad lock, had no problems on the many tridents I've owned, it sounds like yours is faulty, id send it back to sog for warranty repairs. the arc lock is comparable to benchmades axis lock.

I have no question about that. The locking mechanism in the SAT knives can be seen if you look down into the handle. I also have a few of SOGs arc lock folders as well. I tested the mini aegis again and yah there definetely must be something wrong with the lock on the one I have.

The lock mechanism on the Flash and Aegis series was called the "Piston Lock" when I bought my first Flash back in 2004. The arc-actuator provides a much easier and more elegant action to the closing of these knives, IMO. Yours definitely sounds faulty. I've opened up all of my Aegises (Aegi? I'm not sure what the plural should be) and Flashes and the lock engages well enough behind the blade that I'd have to break the knife to make it fail. Send it in, they'll take care of you.
