sog flash II

that was my first knife. It was very easy to get sharp. I liked the low riding clip. It did feel pretty good in my hand. The assisted opening is always fun. It aint bad for a first knife.

not my 1st knife I've got several, but I bought this knife today just on a whim,,I kind of like it for the asst opening and its a fairly light knife, easy to carry in your pocket, It may take the place of what I carry now for a while

Not a knife I'm very fond of. The blade is great, the steel is great, and the action is great, but the handle leaves much to be desired. It's bulky in all the wrong places and the butt-taper is extremely awkward. Keep in mind: I'm a devout SOG fan, but you'd do better to pay the extra money and get a Trident. You get more blade style options, a more comfortable and functional handle, a better lock, and the same open-assist features.

As far as awkward tapers and bulkiness go, take a look at a knife that I think got it right: the Kershaw Blur. The handle is large enough to fill the hand, but not so thick that it's awkward to grip. The butt does taper, but only after it's filled out to a comfortable curve. The SOG Flash II's handle feels almost like gripping a square tube.

I used to have one and couldn't stand it. The blade always felt like it wobbled a little bit when it was in the open position. I didn'ti really care for the handle either, it just seemed so boxy to me. IMHO.

I picked up a couple of them on a trade. I sold one off & kept the nicer one. It has a TiNi coated CE drop-point blade, but the nice thing about it, is it's the anodized aluminum handled model. The previous owner sent it in to SOG, so it was sharpened by them & had a new torsion bar put in it. So, there's no blade play, it's sharp, & it fires open hard & fast.

They're not a bad, "do anything" knife.

Having had a Flash II for awhile and just got a Tenacious, I can say I'd take the Tenacious anyday.

I love the assisted opening on the Flash, but the size, shape, scales, weight and price of the Tenacious are far superior in my opinion.

Great little knife for the money. Good for just about any task so you can't go wrong with it.

I got the camo Zytel handle model. I really like it for an everyday knife. It's big and strong and sharp enough for most rough work. I got into the habit of leaving it in an inside jacket pocket so I'd always have it with me outdoors. I find the handle shape is secure in a couple of my favorite grips, saber and hammer.

A zytel Flash II was my EDC for a while. I loved the blade (size, shape, grind, wish there were more blades like it) and the low profile clip. And the handle really fit my hand. I stopped carrying it because of the iffy legality (I have no desire to mess with the local courts).

Also being from S. Cal, what's "iffy" about the Flash II? The only thing I can think of is LA's "under 3" law. Other than that, you're good to go anywhere in Cal, unless the local ordinance has something similar to LA.

Assisted openers look like autos to lots of people, and LEOs are people too. If one of them doesn't know the difference and decides you're carrying an actual auto, you end up in court proving your point, and that is aggravation, time, and money to assert your rights.

Orange PD busted a guy who bought a knife at the Block shopping center on the grounds that it was a gravity knife (or a switchbalde), don't know if it really was or not. The guy spent a month in the clink and finally pled guilty just to get off with time served. I work in Orange very near the Block and have no desire to spend a month (or even a week) in jail because some over-zealous cop doesn't like knives. I've heard that Orange PD is notorious for knife arrests. Don't know if I could still find the link for the story.

Bingo!

They are great knives.
BTW- there is no torsion bar. They have coil springs.

Sorry about that, I thought it had a torsion bar, what ever is in there, was replaced by SOG, lol. Works great either way.

On the getting stopped by LE thing, I'm surprised by all the "this guy got arrested for that" news. Being in LE myself (& having worked with LA, OC, & Orange PD guys), while it may be true, "sometimes" there's more to the story than just what is written. I'm not saying there is to that story, but just that there can be.

Remember, you need to give a Cop a reason to check to see if you have weapons on you, in order for them to check. But I do fully understand that it's better safe than sorry.

Either way, it is too bad you don't use your Flash II anymore. While it's not a great knife, I do find myself using it when I think I'm going to "abuse" the knife.

As an aside to this, while not a Flash II, I just got a SOG Night Vision with their arc lock. Wow! Very nice knife. It reminds me of a Benchmade HK 14250 I had, but better. The Night Vision is the discontinued model with G-10 scales. While SOG now uses VG-10 in their Vision line, this one has ATS-34 in it, which isn't bad at all.

Been carrying the Flash II for the past three years and it's the one that got me hooked on Sog knives. I've never had any blade play in mine and I love the smooth action and assisted opening. Stays pretty sharp and have never had any problems with it. At the price it costs it's one of the best knives I've owned for the value.

I have the Flash 1 and 2 and they are slick little numbers, a kick to carry and open. Sharp as all heck out the box, fill the hand nicely and hella fast in maneuvers!
