Looking for an A/O and I like the blade shape of this knife. Does anyone have one of these? Can you tell me about the quality of this knife?

Thanks!

I think it's one of the best blade shapes around. I found the handle very comfy and secure. The clip is very low profile. AUS8 with a good HT is fine for day to day use. There is a little side to side play but I never really noticed it in actual use. Send me an email, I can't send you one.

I carried a Flash II for a while. Meh... It's just not one of my favorite A/Os. Maybe I'm just a Kershaw nut, but I like almost anything in their lineup of A/Os over (comparable in size) the Flash II. I just figure why buy Zytel and AUS 8 (Flash II) when for about the same price I can get at an Aluminum handle w/ inserts and an S60V blade (Kershaw Blur blemmish model)?

I'm not saying that the Flash II won't suit your day to day needs. I do like the low riding pocket clip for sure, but it's just not one of my favorite designs.

In general they are good knives SilverFoxKnows is right though, there is a little side to side play. Also they are not the fastest deploying, there are certainly faster AO's. In general as a EDC knife it will hold up great. Bit of an addon I have found that the aluminum scaled version have a bit of a better fit and finish and do not seem to have the blade play issue at all.

The blade is fine, the quality is decent. The knife itself is horrible IMO. Specifically the handle.
The handle is very uncomfortable if your hand is not the specific size/shape it was designed for. You don't even need to hold it, just look at it. It also flares out way too much, to the point of affecting the blade's usability.

No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't find a grip that was comfortable in that knife. There are better alternatives out there for the price point.
The Flash I might be better as it is so small that a full grip wouldn't be possible anyway.

The AEGIS seems very promising, but for the materials used it's simply overpriced. I would snag it for a good deal though.

I like it quite a bit. It's not the best knife, nor the best AO knife, but the PE satin can be found at quite reasonable prices and it's a fun knife with a great blade shape. I like mine a lot, even though it's not all my other knives are Spydercos. If you can find one for about $40-45 that's good, but most of SOG's folder designs just aren't a good enough value at $60-80 or higher prices they are often sold for. Mind you, most need a little pivot adjusting, but they are fine after that.

Give the Kershaw Shallot and Leek a look too.

I have both the Flash 2 and the Aegis. I like them both. Although I find the Aegis to be a fav. I find the Aegis lock release to be better and easier to close. It's smoother. The blades are a nice flat grind which I like for my cutting chores. I find the handle more comfortable on the Aegis than the flash.
I find the steel to be satisfactory on the Sog's. I believe what bothers a lot of people with the Sog assisted openers is the blade play. There is a little both side to side and up and down. Not mushy but it is there. The other thing is the lock can be released by putting pressure on the spine.
If you can find a really good price on either the Flash 2 or the Aegis I would try one.
Another good knife is the Kershaw shallot. I put a little bit of grip tape on the handle and it was good to go. Very nice blade and locks up solid. I like using it in the kitchen, it makes short order of veggies and such.

cheers,
Sean

The Flash 2 look a lot better on paper than it really does in person.

In fact, it's the only knife I've ever regretted buying.

Out of the box it was extremely sharp and mine didn't have any of the blade play that's so often associated with these knives.

But the materials used feel very cheap and the handle is poorly weighted in my opinion. I love the blade design, but wish it was a bit wider, the cutting edge sits too far back on the handle and makes any prolonged cutting uncomfortable.

The pocket clip is a particular concern to me. It was the first deep carry clip I ever owned. And to say that I don't like deep carry clips is being nice. In my opinion a deep carry pocket clip is the absolute worst idea that's come along in ages. The point of the pocket clip is to make the knife more accessible, not to hide it.

The clip on the Flash 2 gets caught on everything you pass and the clip retention out of the box was lacking. And like everything else about the knife, the pocket clip seems made from lesser quality materials.

The AO action, based on my only other AO knife (Camillus Heat) isn't very quick or strong.

Later version could be different and improoved, mine is an early "patent pending" model.

I bought it for two reasons, I'd never had a SOG before and I'd never had a assisted opener. But that knife turned me away from SOG for good (and I still don't like AOs).

If you like the knife, buy it and don't let any of us keep you from it. But I think your money could be better spent somewhere else.

I bought one a week ago. Most of the negative comments are true in my experience. It is hard for me to really say how good the knife is however, since I was sent a defective knife with lots of up/down blade play. The handle is a little awkward like some have stated, but not a deal breaker.

To comment on the positive side, their customer service is great (I still have not sent the knife in, so we will see how effective their warrantee service is, I am expecting it to be good). Also the blade comes RAZOR SHARP OUT OF THE BOX wich is a true sign of passionate knife makers. The AUS 8 looks great aswell, and I find the blade shape to be great. I just hope they can fix it.
