Am I crazy?

I saw a brand new SOG flash ll in a pawn shop today, I know these knives run anywhere from 40 to 75 bucks, the guy had 2 of them for 25 dollars each, I looked them over all seemed to be new mint working order, but the size was very large for a folder, and honestly, the steel looked cheap, am I crazy for not getting them?

they seemed to be good knives I guess they just didn't light my fire so to speak!

Nope your not crazy!! I would have bought them because I like them but if you don't like them it doesn't matter what they cost!!

That is a decent price for a used Flash2. New they cost about 40-45 bucks (shipping included) from the stores I look at.

I have held two, and each had too much bladeplay (in all directions) for my liking. The clip got in the way of my grip a lot too.

I picked up three a year back from a guy on Ebay for $25 each with free shipping. Walmart sells them on line for $37 with 97 cent shipping. I like them....

I have had a Flash and a Trident. Both actions, after minor field use, were totally trashed, basically turned into loose locking manuals. Any sort of sand or dust that gets in there just totally destroys the spring. and don't get me started on a little bit of water... I used the trident as my EDC/duty knife for about a month, after that it was just garbage. A tacticool piece that sits in the closet.

I've had the complete opposite experience with my Trident. This is one tough knife in my opinion. It was my EDC at work for a while (at least 6 months) and it has been through the wringer. I work in construction and when I say used and abused, I mean used and abused. That includes everything from cutting, scraping, digging, and even (gasp!) some light prying. I've also gotten everything from lint to dirt to sand inside it and no problems with the spring. I did of course clean it on a regular basis but for the amount of hell I've put it through I am suprised this knife is still in one piece. The assisted opening mechanism still snaps the blade open as fast as day one. For the $70 bucks I paid for this knife I have gotten more than my money's worth. In fact, I liked it so much I bought another one!

Here's a pic of them. The tigerstripe Trident was my EDC for a while and has been sharpened many times as you can probably tell. It remains an awesome knife and can still slice with the best of 'em.

Cheesy steel, cheesy knife. SOGs offshore AUS-8 (or 6?) is crumbly and chippy in my experience (3-4 cheap SOGS)

I have to disagree. I used to be a SAT hater and had a bad experience with
a Flash II but my opinion was changed with an Aegis that someone threw in
with a trade. Are they a heavy duty knife made for prying...no. But they are
super light for it's size, take a wicked edge and are easy to sharpen. I really
like mine and have been EDC'ing it for about 3 months. I am really impressed
with it. Does it have a little horizontal play...yes. I don't notice it in use
though.

I had a Flash Tanto. These are very good knives. The quality is excellent.

I gave a SOG II flash to my client a platinum jeweler who is ruthless towards his knives. He has no problem digging and prying and beating the everlovin shit out of them. He owns knives like he hates them. His SOG ( i saw it yesterday) still looks and works great. Very dull but the thing has withstood daily carry and abuse for 4 years by this guy!! I generally dislike SOG but I gotta say the Flash II held up great.
buy em for gifts man!

I carried a flash 2 for a little while but one day i put it through some light to medium duty use and it was completely trashed plus if you want it to work you will have to clean it every week or so and the lock is unpleasant to disengage and hard to disengage with one hand. hate it a lot wouldnt buy one for 10 bucks ( had problems with it rusting too)

Man, i was gonna buy the flash 1, but i work in construction and i don't think it could handle the dust now. Damn. I love the pocket clip sitting so low. I guess i'll be choosing something else now. Any suggestions? I currently carry a Kershaw Skyline, a real workhorse & great knife.
