i purchased the SOG first and liked it. i thought i would compare it to a Microtech switchblade, so i ordered one(SOCOM series). keep in mind, the microtech is considered one of the finest production auto's anywhere. the flash is AMAZINGLY SMOOTH with no recoil or bounce, i can get the blade out faster and like the reversible clip better(the blade speed is faster on the microtech, but the flash is easier to manipulate, so in reality i can have the blade out faster than a switchblade!!! so, the microtech has been put back in the box. the steel is a bit better on the microtech(154-CM as compared to AUS8 on the SOG), but since i won't be using the microtech, that really won't matter. both feel good in the hand. the microtech is made from aluminum(???)with rubber(???)inserts to keep your hand from slipping, so it has a "richer" feel than the zytel, but at the cost of an added $150. dollar for dollar, the flash is now my favorite. i realize it is not considered a "hard core" tacticle knife, but it is FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
TWO THUMBS UP FOR THE FLASH:)
i also ordered a benchmade 943, emerson mini commander, mini x-ray vision and night vision for comparisions(personal preference, not professional evaluations), they have not yet arrived.

sounds like you're on a wet-dream knife buying spree:cool:
now i have knife-buying spree envy!
btw--the mini-Commander will put even your autos to shame, speed-drawing wise. they're slicker n' snot:p

Hi Wayne,

I enjoyed your post. Good evaluation and observations. I think most everyone here knows I'm an auto freak. Yes, the good ones all have recoil. Personally not a problem, until I pull it out around the "blade shy" or have them use it. Then I have problems. It's like handing a .44 Mag to 99 pound woman who's never shot a handgun (well, kind of...). The Flash makes opening a complete dream. And you're right...the speed of the blade travel doesn't need to be any faster.

I know the autos don't "beat you up" when using them, but I can't help but think about my trips to the gun range. I can shoot tons of rounds of medium velocity cartridges, but give me something like a 7mm Mag and I'm done after five shots! Maybe I'm just getting old.

BTW, I'll put in my vote for unburdening you of that auto Socom! I have a nice little auto collection to place it in! :)
