Ok!! so alot of pple are downing sog and particularly the flash line here on blade forums! I don't want to start a argument or anything but alot of the pple are saying that the reason they don't like the series is because of blade play! so what I want to know is whats the fuss about it? shouldn't a little blade play be expected from such a light weight knife with plastic handles and no steel liners? I'm new so I don't really know but thats just what I was thinking so feel free to comment and please lets not start a war about sog!!

After adjusting the pivot screw my flash1 has no blade play. It's a small, lightweight, cheap knife. Well worth the $20 I spent on it. But that's my only experince with SOG.

I love mine - yes, there's play, but there's absolutely nothing I'm going to use such a small, thin knife for that makes it uncomfortable.

My Flash II is OK as far as blade play, but it isn't as solid as my Skyline and other "budget" knives. The thing I don't like about my SOG is the gritty and cheap feel of opening and closing. Not smooth at all and I've cleaned it. Still a decent knife taking all things into consideration. Just not near the top of the heap.

My $35 Kershaw Skyline is 2.3 oz and has no blade play and opens as fast as an AO. It's not too much to expect.

My Flash II looks great, opens smooth and has no blade play. It functions perfectly.

But...its not near the knife my Tenacious is that's only 2/3s the cost.

Not slamming SOG but they are over-priced for what you get, IMO.

If my $10 SAK has no side to side bladeplay, then nothing else should have play

I have now handled two SOG Flash 2 models; one which I originaly purchased, and a second that I recieved after returing the first for bladeplay. The second knife that I recieved has the same amount of bladeplay as the first.

I suspect that all the newer Flash 2 models have vertical bladeplay. I say "newer models" because there is a model that was made with a different looking locking button. The new ones have a round button and the old ones have a rectangular button with rounded edges. The older models may not have the bladeplay problem. I know that both of the ones I handled have a lot of upand down play. If you can live with that then go for it, but there are many companies who get it right and make light weight knives that lock up 100%.

PS my flashes were zytel, not aluminum

I think it's got one of the best blade shapes around. Mine had a little play but not enough to notice in actual use. I wish more knives had a full flat grind drop point. Even with its lowly AUS8 it outcut some much more expensive knives with higher end super steels, especially when pressed into kitchen duty. If you like the design and find a good price give it a try.

despite some of the problems people have been having with the flash 2 and sog in general, i have two flash 2 knvies and i really like both. i have the plastic and aluminum handle one.

Lateral blade play? Adjust the pivot screw and problem solved, simple as that. As far as vertical movement I have never had any up and down movement whatsoever on any of my SOG folders and I have owned more than a few and have EDC'd them for lengthy periods of time.

Nutnfancy has a great video review of the Flash here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeJxY7YFBTA It's one of his all-time favorite utility knives (and he has alot of knives) and has nothing but great things to say about SOG as a company, even explaining that SOG will fix any problems with their knives free of charge.

I have to admit I am also a fan of SOG and am suspect of some people's opinions about it on here. I believe many people just kinda follow the herd once a general opinion is formed about a certain knife or company. That is why I always ask how long they have EDC'd that particular knife in question...or even if they've EDC'd it.

Mine must be an older one because its got the rectangle lock. It's got NO play vertical or side to side.

I used to have a flash II, it was pretty decent. It developed minimal blade play, but it really wasnt a big deal and was fixed with a little tightening of the pivot. I wouldnt mind getting a flash I, maybe even another II someday.

I'll admit to some SOG bashing of late, but I'm prepared to admit I was wrong. My Flash II developed some blade play that I couldn't adjust out. Last week spoke to SOG customer service, & shipped it back for service. Hope it's back soon. It wasn't my favorite EDC, but definitely in the rotation. The big pluses are really light for a bigger folder, low riding clip, ambidextrous. I think AUS-8 is an OK steel. I don't think the Flash would stand up to the abuse I frequently dish out to an EDC, but then only Bucks and Cold Steels really do. All in all, a quite good left pocket knife for a right-hander.

I like my Flash II a lot. Sure, most SOGs aren't a great value, and there are better knives than the Flash II at its price point, but I like it a lot. It's fun and looks great, and if you can get one cheap then why not? All my other knives are Spydercos but I don't regret my Flash II one bit!

20 seconds of adjustment and you can eliminate blade play and still have it pop right open.

One more  for the Flash II. Camo handle, not aluminum, square release button. Used it quite a bit, no blade play. A quick touch on the pivot screw one time.

It's a nice, lightweight knife and a good cutter. It took some time to get used to the strange handle shape, but it is VERY comfortable.

 me too for the SOG Flash II.

It was the first modern knife I bought that cost more than $50. I got the aluminum version. After 4 or 5 years of ownership no problems with blade play or other issues. I do adjust the pivot from time to time.

I bought a Tomcat 3.0 a few months ago and the quality is outstanding.

Well alright! All this talk about SOG Flash and no pictures?? Here's mine...
