SOG Folder

My wife bought me for Christmas an SOG Seal Pup, Partially serrated, tiger striped blade. It came with a nylon sheath. The sheath has an extra pouch that is large enough to fit a matching folder. Here is the question. What do you people here think of either the Flash II or Trident?

I have both the Flash I and Flash II-- and I really like both of them. Both open quick, lock solid, and keep a sharp edge for awhile without even touching up.

As far as the Trident folder, I do not have one but have heard mixed reviews... some claim it is sort of flimsy.

Either way, let us know which you get and how you like it.

Don't think much of the Flash, but I know it has its fans.

The Trident is kind of fun, but IMO you can do better for the $$
It does have a good AO mechanism & lock

Flash II is smaller than the Trident. Trident is more solid IMO as a whole. I think the Flash opens a little quicker. Both are great knives, but if you're going for an outdoorsy knife, go with the Trident. Check the specs, because the Trident is quite larger than the Flash and you don't wanna buy something that's not going to fit in your "little pouch" haha.

Also check out reviews of both of these knives on youtube. Here's the link to my little reviews.

Ditto. Have them both. Love them both. I agree the Flash is a bit quicker and smoother, but the Trindent is a lot more ergonomic and seems a bit better built overall. But if you go Trident I'd recommend the Tanto since from what I understand the other blade is rather thin. I have the Tanto and it's plenty thick and sturdy.
And yeah, def. check out the measurements since the Tanto is a bit larger and may not fit as well as the Flash.

Thanks for the info guys. I did read in another related post that the Trident's blade was thinner. I will let you know what I think when I get whichever one I decide on. Gotta get myself a Christmas present too!

I've owned both, and they're both pretty good knives. Especially the Flash, for it's price. I snatched one up for 30 new on ebay and 25 used on the forums. The Trident is also a very good knife, but it's a bit pricey, and you can definitely do better for the price. It's still a great knife though.

Well I just ordered a Flash. I'll let you know how I like it when it comes. Thanks for the input.

My Flash II came in the mail today. Only had time to play a little so far, but is appears to be a solid knife. Very happy! One question, though. It arears that to reverse or remove the pocket clip I just remove the allen screw at the but end. Is that correct?

I actually have that exact combo Seal Pup elite and a SOG Trident tiger stripe in the pouch fits just find and makes a great team together in one place I love it. Take it with me whenever I head into the woods. I think you would probably want to go with the trident if you like a bigger folder, it is a good size but surprisingly light for carry although both the flash and trident have a little blade play, but they're still pretty solid knives for the money and the AO works smooth and is almost as fast as most of the Kershaws I have I do wish they had a flipper on them though.

i have the flash II with the alum handle and tini blade. great knife. i like the trident more though. i have had two of them and am going to buy another. the reason i dont have the two is due to the tiger stripe blade rusting because the grey areas are bead blasted. i am going to get the desert camo though. i think it just came out. both are fantastic knifes, but the handle on the trident feels better. i would be more comfortable hitting something hard with the tridents handle than the alum flash II. both great, but for different purposes.

I did get a chance to put my Flash on a stone. It hasn't seen any hard use yet, but the metal seems solid and it does take a nice edge.

I've had 3 Flash II's now & have only one now, & that one I'll probably keep.

My 1st one was a TiNi CE tanto with the camo handle. I probably should've kept it, but traded it for a SOG 2000, which I really like. Then I picked up a satin PE one with black zytel handle & a TiNi CE aluminum handled one on a trade. Got rid of the zytel handled one & use the TiNi CE aluminum one as part of my EDC rotation. I kind of wish it was the tanto blade, but still, the drop point with serrations & coating isn't bad.

As an aside, the last 2 I got had gone to SOG for a tune-up prior to my getting them. They replaced the torsion bar & sharpened both of them. While the TiNi one had some coating wear, the knife performs like new & IMHO, is an underrated knife.

I like the Flash II a lot, the very first folder I bought and i got one for my friend as well.

However it developed significant lateral bladeplay shortly after i got it. i can even rattle it around while it is closed! :(

is this a quality control issue because I have heard of similar complaints. is there any way to fix it? i thought of tapping on the pivot with a cloth and hammer but i hear it will damage the knife. any thoughts?

also, how exactly does the piston lock work? how strong is it?

I have both and like the Trident better. It just feels better in my hand. The grip just felt too high on the Flash II.
