Sog Force vs Esee 5

ESEE. All day every day. Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin have taken their knives all over the world. They know what works and
what doesn't. They know the environments their knives are built for, and I would have no problem trusting my life with an ESEE knife.

I think if your life is on the line sog is the only way to go. And comands respect

I like a lot of SOG designs and own quite a few SOG knives on the basis of look and feel, but the Force costs too much considering it's still an AUS8 blade. I'll spend a little more for American craftsmanship and better steel, especially for serious hard use.

The question wasn't "which brand do you prefer" because of course it would be Esee. I own quite a few SOGs, mostly the older Seki types. SOG can make a good fixed blade when they want to. So lets not just jump to conclusions based on general forum monkey see monkey do hear say.

We are talking about the Esee 5 here folks. It is not very good at being a knife. It is admittedly the least favorite design of the folks who designed it. It is a sharpened pry bar. I own one and like it but not for any other reason than it is cool. It is terrible for actual cutting.

I have owned the SOG Force. The only reason I sold it is I had several other knives in that size that I liked better (Esee 6). The Force is actually a good design for an outdoorsy, bushcrafty blade. It is not too big. The thick spin is mitigated by the hallow grind making it good at general cutting yet thick enough for heavy use. I like the handle, it is the same handle as is on the Seal Team. And thankfully it does not have serrations like many SOGs do. The sheath could be better but of all the OEM nylon sheaths out there I think SOG does the best one.

The cons on the Force would be the steel and the price. As Inazone said, over priced for the steel you get. Then again, if you are looking for a strictly stainless bush knife, it might be right up your ally. And as for as AUS8 goes, SOG has it down.

Would it be the knife I would buy in that size and price range? No. Get an Esee 6 or laser strike. Is it better at being a knife than an Esee 5? Yes.

No comparison ESEE for real work. SOG for tacticool, overpriced looks.

It is ironic you would say this. In almost any other comparison between the 2 companies offerings you would be correct. However, in this instance, the situation is exactly the opposite of what you say. Do you own both knives?
