I just picked one of these up for like $30, seems like a really good deal, but it is my first hawk. Anyone have one? Are they decent or junk? I figured my first one would be affordable and then if I liked it I would step up to an ATC or something.

I can't speak with first hand knowledge on the SOG. It's obviously patterned after the Lagana/Viet Nam hawk, but I don't understand why SOG did the "bolt-on" head on it. It might be a very weak link. I hope, for your investment, that it's not. Kinda like the rest of it!

For $30, you really can't go wrong. If it breaks, no biggie.

Let us know how it is after you work with it awhile.

My SOG fusion came razor sharp. The head/handle junction (steel shaft in head running down about 3 inches into the handle, bolted on, steel ferrule under) actually looks like it might be stronger than the one on my Cold Steel vietnam tomahawk. I don't like the fact that it is 440 stainless. I got it to check out the design of the head and would sooner use the CS in bad situations.
 
I kinda like the SOG in a funky sort of way. It seems well build, it's decent steel, the handle is replaceable if you break it and all around seems like a $30 piece.
