Hey guys. I'm planning on picking up a tomahawk to keep in my truck for emergencies and camping etc. Has anyone out there had any experience with the new SOG hawk yet? I was just wondering if it'll stand up to any sort of abuse or not.

Personally i don't think it would hold up well at all because the steel is basically crap. However i have never used one so what do i know right?:o

DrMUDD,
Unless someone from SOG chimes in I don't think anyone will know much about this one for another month or so. I don't think they hit the streets until the end of the month. The fusion line looks like a bunch of interesting ideas, but as RedEdge77 mentioned they are imports and meant to be affordable so unfortunately I think they're made with lower quality materials. Not that that's going to stop me from getting a Jungle Primitive when they hit the streets.

well its 420 which isnt basically crap. Its not high grade though. Here is what one website says about it.

420: Lower carbon content (Less than.5%) than the 440 series makes this steel extremely soft, and it doesn't hold an edge well. It is used often for diving knives, as it is extremely stain resistant. Also used often for very inexpensive knives. Outside salt water use, it is too soft to be a good choice for a utility knife.

So mayeb youll need to resharpen it but you probably dont need to worry about maintinence when it doesnt see use.

Though i say if its made in china or something dont buy it, support american work.

Although I agree that 420 is not a great steel. One can look at it this way, use and abuse it and if it breaks, it's a pretty cheap replacemment. I'll be picking up some of the throwing knives and if one cracks or snaps I won't feel bad about damaging it.
Cheers!!

Thanks for the input y'all. I just ordered a K5 Tactical. I don't like having tools that might let might let me down when I really need them.
