They are essentially the same knife, the Agent just has a Gray Epoxy Powder coating on it and the Government has a brushed finish. As to which one you should get, I have no clue. They are a good general purpose field knife simmaler to the Kabar. Get one then use it or don't. If you are going to use it and are worried about wearing the finish, get the Government.

The 2nd SOG I bought was a used Government. I believe I was living in the dorms at Snow College at the time which would mean I got it in the fall of 2001. Sold it to a friend who is a fellow SOG collector this spring when I needed some money for bills. Am tempted to buy it back when I have some play money. After getting one of the classic Government Models, you should consider adding a Gov-Tac to your collection as well. I don't have one yet, but liked the one that I handled in a store.

Now that I think about it, get a Government or Agent for your collection and a Gov-Tac for a user. SOG made some good improvements when they came out with the Gov-Tac! :)

I would say get the Government. The powder coating tends to drag when cutting. Satin-finished knives cut easier and cleaner. The powder coating would be nice if you value low reflectivity though. Rust may develop under the powder coating so be careful.

On second thought, why don't you get both? You won't be able to find any of those sooner.
