Hello...

I don't believe I've posted in the SOG forum before. However I've been lurking a little lately -- great sub-forum!

Here's the reason for my post:

I picked up a Government model recently (satin finish Bowie style blade) which has the nylon/cordura sheath. I've done some searching to try to determine the range of dates for it's manufacture, but wasn't able to nail down a definite range, which is why I'm posting.

The information I've gleaned from searching in this forum is that the Government was the first in a series of Sog knives that included the Recon, Agent and maybe others. Also, that the earlier ones had the nylon sheath, and at some point they switched to Kydex.

So, if anyone can give me a date range for this knife, I'd be most appreciative. It actually hasn't arrived yet, otherwise I'd post pictures. I will once it gets here.

My guess for dates would be early 90's. I'd say between 91 and 96. I'll see if I can get better dates.
 
I like the older ones better. They used to have a shiny TiNi finish and nicer spacers. Just a few years back it went to bead-blast. Boo. Nice design, though, and one of my favorites.
 
this thread appears to be pretty dead, however if anyone is interested in one of the older SOG Governemt models I have one in mint condition. Never ever been used to cut anything. I purchased at a gun show from a dealer back in 1992 or 93 I believe. I lost the white box it came in (over the years) but I have the Nylon/Cordura type sheath it came with. It is razor sharp and beautifull knife I simply dont and never have used it.
