sog team leader in duratech20v was lucky to get this. was discontinued dec 2009. this came from some warehouse & specs are:
c--1.9
cr--20.0
mo--1.0
v--4.0
w--.60
will test it when i decide medium to be used,as usual had to rebevel to acute.

Very similar alloy composition to M390PM coming out in Benchmade ( silbert) and Kershaw ( Volt) in the near future.

The steel is great, and the knife came sharp, and is a wicked penetrator. The tip is like a needle. The only problem I had with the knife was the grip. It was very uncomfortable for me. In any hard use situation I could see actually getting scraped and or bruised by the grip. It goes way beyong what I call a "hot spot" on a knife grip.

It's a shame too as the steel , grinds and blade shape are top notch. It was the first production knife I know of in 20CV. Up until the SOG's release it was only available in Hinderers, and some Greg Lightfoot customs.

I think that Microtech also had a few of the LCC's and a small run of SOCOMs done in 20-CV, but there wasn't an abundance of them.

I'd like to see a couple of sprint run folders from Spyderco or Kershaw using 20-CV. I had a Gen. 3 XM-18 and I liked the steel alot.

Are they discontinued?
I really liked the design and would have bought one if Sog didn't put al those uncomfortable and unnecessary grooves on the handle.
Sog's marketing does this kind of stupid things on a good design.

For example the "new" NW ranger.
They lost the serrations and use a better steel (aus8) BUT they ruined it by putting grooves on the finger guard !!!

Cold steel even keeps better attention to the actual " use" of the knife than rather only the looks.

Didn't read the previous post first but it seems The Mastiff confirms my thoughts.
I've a sog with the same handle without the grooves: the "field knife" in BG42.
The FieldKnife is very comfortable, shame the next gen isn't.
Otherwise like said before I would have bought one and think I'm not the only one.

i rebeveled my sog last nite to more acute angle. i have abunch of heavy cardboard that contained a lawnmower but that stuff is almost as hard as plywood so i'm looking for something to cut. may baton it thru some old cedar on my property. that cardboard is so tuff you need a vise to hold it so it can be cut.the factory sheath is not great but ny nephew can make me one from kydex.

scrappy i have'nt tried the sog since i got it back from ankerson. he put a great mirror bevel on it & i have just showed it to friends.this type knife doe'st fit in for ranch or hunting duties so i guess it will sit around like 30 or 40 more i have. may let my friend kdstrick give it a workout on the back of his property. this knife could be decent as a camp knife but i do'nt do that much anymore..it's out of production now.

Got mine a ways back. Great steel...holds an edge very well. Sheath is absolute junk in my opinion. I use mine for kitchen duty until I get a sheath made. Dennis if you have a sheath made I would be greatful if you get two and I would gladly buy second from you at a mark up. I didn't realize this was carpenter steel. Very good edge retention. I have cut lots of meat and vegi's with mine on a wood cutting board and haven't needed to sharpen it. Handle material is what it is. If I get a sheath I will either make handle slabs or get some made. I prefer a smoother handle with some nice micarta. Good score on the knife!
